Whilst clearly welcome news, let’s wait and see what the increase is for each of the early rounds. It would be nice if the biggest percentage increases were awarded to those in the qualifying rounds (I’d like to see this even if we were to get promoted and be exempt). What is obvious, however, is that it will help the rich clubs get even richer and I suspect that the prize money for the 2019 winners (i.e. almost certainly one of big six) will increase from £1.8 million to something approaching £4 million. I hope I'm wrong.

Whilst this can only be good news for the likes of ourselves and we should see some extra incentive to get through each round, I’d say it’s clear that the main ‘driver’ for this will be to try and stop premier league and championship sides playing weakened teams in the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds. By the quarters they tend to start taking it seriously anyway.
