Scrap the above lol. Get in there!. I read your post at half time, and immediately thought of it 5 minutes later as SW poked it in As has been said, a game of 2 halves, just a shame we couldn't eek out a winner......... but then ended up being thankful to that great double save from JB right at the end to keep the point. Spoke to a few Wrexham fans after the game, general feeling all round, a point each was fair. Haha damn it!.

I thought that a point against a good Wrexham team was a fair result. Next up we need to take maximum points against the two basement teams to keep up our title challenge.

Very competitive and enjoyable match and a draw seemed about right. Butler's excellent double (it was a double, wasn't it?) save in extra time really made me jump. Good turn out by the Wrexham fans, as expected.
For the first time something that might be described as a gap opens up between us and the team in 8th place. Although I possibly shouldn't say that...

Hard earned point but a fair result. Not sure about playing 4 centre backs today was the best plan, their limited but very mobile big no 9 was causing all sorts of problems in the first half running into the channels, and we'd already had a big let off when Wrexham again sliced through our right flank with ease and scored. We had created little of note but an excellent 2nd half display saw us perhaps slightly disappointed not to take all 3. Dealt much better with their attack and we really stretched them for most of the half. Lacking that killer pass all afternoon and there was some poor decision making but can't fault the effort.
Harrison had a fairly anonymous debut but early days and hopefully he'll link up well with Tommy once they get to know each other. Referee was excellent, best we've had all season although as usual linemen offered little help.
Can't help feeling we need to get 6 points from the next 2 games to stay in touch with Macclesfield. Torquay took a battering at home today so likely to be improved and will no doubt be a tough game, but Guiseley are in terrible form.

U's management is bold and impatient this season. Last season we seemed to wait too long for an imported but non-scoring forward-line to come good, and some didn't. This season even Ross Lafayette wasn't given time to regain confidence, despite his first half of the season displays.
So welcome Byron Harrison - sorry there was no 'Jones the Throw' to help you take on Wrexham. He is obviously a player who uses both sides of his head, the outside and the inside, to good effect. Only his first 20 minutes showed the square peg in a round hole that many debutants take at least one match to overcome. It was his new colleagues who were taking longer to react to what he could do for the rest of the game - particularly his disguised lay-offs.
I guess the starting 11 was the tallest side Sutton have ever fielded. I can see the reasons for it but I don't particularly like JC at full back, he is vulnerable to a pacy winger, and for that matter I think Louis is better at centre half than Simon. Quigley's 2 inch height advantage may have been something Downer could cope with, but the striker proved to be faster too. No Sutton defender got within 2 yards of him as he sprinted on to a ball over the top and lashed it past Butler.
Wrexham's defence is the meanest in the league. In repelling most attacks you can see why, their cohesion and marking were good and they challenged for the ball outside their area. Three times however they got into a flap when the ball was loose in their six yard box and Walton punished the first flap from a yard out.
If Lafayette's form earned him a loan elsewhere then Coombes should keep a road map in his car. The other late sub, Hudson Adoi has yet to show me on the field why Dos holds him in high regard. To use a racing term - he appears to be carrying extra condition. No wonder we got another striker on loan.

In the first half we tried to play a pressing game, but it didn't work. We got plenty of crosses in, but the quality was poor. Wrexham soaked up the pressure and counter-attacked incisively. It was no great surprise when they split our high line and Quigley, through and with just Jamie Butler to beat, placed his shot accurately inside the far post.
In the second half we showed a lot more energy and were rewarded early on when the ball came back off the bar and fell to Simon Walton who hooked in the equaliser. We might have won it after that, but were still indebted to that fine double save from JB which prevented Wrexham snatching a late winner. In the end a draw was probably a fair result.
So we find ourselves back down to fifth place, but just five points off the top. With our next seven league games all against bottom-half sides, there's a real opportunity to push up the table again. Not that football is always that straightforward.

As others have said Wrexham had first half, U's the second.
That goal right after h-t was key and U's bossed the game thereafter, save for Jamie B's double intervention at the end.
Wrexham reminded me of Tranmere in the first half; big, strong and mobile but U's raised their game after the break and were the better side. Both 'keepers were forced into action, although I was surprised when their 'keeper could only tip onto the bar for SW to poach the equaliser. He made a fine save at the death though - thought Tom B's deflected effort was in.
Honours even and about right too. Good crowd and tremendous away following. Once again this Sutton squad proved that their top 5 place is no fluke and while Simon D got the sponsors MotM (he did play really well) I would have gone with Terrel Thomas as he defended well but at times became an extra midfielder with his ability on the ball taking him well forward.
Byron Harrison had a good debut and gave their big back two a bit to think about.
For the second Saturday running, the ref had a great game. Not normally a fan of this guy but he picked up on the targeting of Tom B (deliberate or not). Booked the third foul on him and dragged their skipper over after the fourth. Their skipper had too much bunny and picked up a yellow late on for a comment too far.
Onto Torquay who are fighting for their NL lives and will be looking to bounce back from a home defeat.

Ref had a great game.... don’t know what game you were watching! You were complaining at the ref the whole of the first half! I think the ref made numerous bad decisions but saying a great game from the referee, well that is a very bold statement in my opinion!

What!! I was having a go at their skipper most of the half because he was constantly in the ref's ear.
He let the game flow when he could, cautioned when necessary and got the majority of his decisions right. Clamping down on the tackles on Tom B early was good refereeing.
How many matches have you refereed Ryan? You can have your opinion but I won't agree and the NLP who are notoriously hard on refs gave him 8 out of 10 which I wouldn't disagree with.

If we have serious ambitions of lifting the title we will have to target more than 14 points I'd imagine - the famous cliche of taking one game at a time is normally brought out at this stage of the season.

Head and shoulders best refereeing performance we've had at ggl this season unless any of the trophy or ssc refs I missed happened to do better. Wasn't conned by the usual falling over and I don't remember noticing him more than a handful of times how often can you say that at this level. We're all quick to point out when the refs had a stinker on here, maybe not so quick to praise them on the rare occasions they're of the standard one would hope for.

Of course we will have our target higher but as a fan, as a minimum I would expect the bare minimium of 14 points from our next 7 games but I think we will get nearer 17/18!

Fair enough on your statement from moaning at the skipper, I didn’t realise that but from my point of view, the ref has a shocker of a gem but as fans we will all think differently...

I can understand us thinking he had a good game, I thought a lot went in our favour. They didn't help themselves (it was ludicrous for their captain to finally talk himself into the book over a throw in near the halfway line), but generally I saw us get the rub of a lot of close calls.
Not complaining like, long overdue.
