It was a bastard to get to by public transport. 😦 Dead easy by car though! Not when that roundabout gets stuck up with traffic, on it for 2hrs once trying to get to Lakeside, mind you a lot safer than trying to do it by cycle I should imagine? Very sad news to see them go..

Yet one more story of a club rising from the effort and aspiration of an individual and which was not rooted in its community. One hopes that those locals who did hop aboard have not become too attached. I feel sorry for them, but not too concerned about the loss of the club. There's always Aveley, 5 minutes up the road, a proper football club with a much better ground.

The club was always doomed to failure as it had no natural support. No housing nearby and really just the hotel owners pet project.

I feel sorry for them as well but I personally think Ship Lane is a better ground than Parkside, there is a more non league feeling there but I prefer traditional non league grounds but either way they are both good non league grounds in my opinion but I favour Ship Lane a bit more...

I'll always remember a game there ( last game of the season 2006/7 ) when Phil Wilson Luke Naughton got sent off, and Alan Bray went in goal, with about a minute left of 'normal time' AJ got knocked out, and rather than take an age to sort things out, the ref blew up for full time !

Have you been to Ship Lane? Already mentioned that I haven’t above! ..... hence why I want to visit it as it is a proper traditional non league ground...

You said it a roundabout way but then you talk about how beautiful the ground is which you've only seen in pictures. Utterly extraordinary! I think I'll just read memories of those who have been there or seen us play them.

You do that 👍, just saying I like the ground as it is in my top 10 grounds to visit in non league and Thurrock are a club I have a soft spot for, and for a reason I don’t know (probably due to their ground)...

At work before we travel abroad we have to do training for working in hostile environments. This includes what to do in a hijack situation. Needless to say I'm revising my notes....
