www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/dulwich-hamlet-ground-owners-meadow-legacy-trademark-name-warn-against-further-use-a8242836.htmlNot sure how many of you been following events over at Champion Hill but the story has lately taken a ridiculous turn. As a Peckham resident, Dulwich are my closest team and, although I have little affinity with the club other than locality and knowing a fair few supporters, I dont know how this has been allowed to happen! If they manage to pip $$$$$Billeric£y to the Bostik title it would be a heroic achievement in the face of adversary. Any chance of Sutton offering groundshare or do you think Carshalton or Bromley would be more likely? A few 1000 Dulwich fans drinking our bar dry wouldnt really be a bad bit of business for us would it? Whatever happens I hope things work out OK for the club and Meadow get theirs. I dont need to hear the 'if you get into bed with developers you get what you deserve angle again bTW, its obvious they messed up but no team deserves to get thrown out of their home 3/4 through a season.

I knew about the copyright thing, but didn't realise they have been kicked out of the ground. Thanks for sharing that.
This Meadow company sound like a right piece of work. The council have a big part to play in this, having listed the ground as an "asset of community value" back in 2013. According to that listing, it lasts for five years and any owner of the property has to apply to the council before they can sell the freehold or a lease longer than 25 years. So as Meadow can't do anything with it until September this year, they seem to pushing their weight to get rid of DHFC before that listing expires (if it's not renewed) to give it more of a market value.
Nasty stuff.

So a property development company turns out not to be such a friend of football after all. Should we be surprised? There's been a social media backlash against the Meadow group (Danny Baker was among those weighing in) and that might be prompting a softening of attitude.
As for a groundshare at GGL, that would be a great gesture by Sutton, but I'm not at all sure that we could accommodate Dulwich home games in the bookings schedule. I've little doubt that somebody at the club has already thought about this and has an answer.

I'm not particularly up to speed with Dulwich's history, but the history of the game in this country is littered with examples of football clubs - of many differing sizes - jumping into bed with property developers, pretty much all of them ending up completely screwed. What made Dulwich think they'd be any different?

In publicity terms asserting copyright over Dulwich Hamlet's name seems to be a huge own goal on behalf of the property developer. Presumably they think it won't make any difference to how this will all play out. More's the pity.

Yeah, a very odd and pointlessly petty move there, which was probably the straw that broke the camel's back for most people. I think most neutral observers would take the view that, while Meadow were obviously acting up over this, the club themselves put themselves in the position where they could be exploited by allowing Meadow to cover the club's losses for a number of years. If the sole and obvious reason for Meadow's involvement went sour, it was always quite likely that they'd try to claw back the money they'd put in previously. DHFC is a football club that, despite big crowds for that level, has been punching above its weight financially for years because of Meadow's involvement, but that involvement has now come back to bite them on the arse.

There is a rumour that they will alternate with groundshares at Carshalton & Tooting.

Tony I was thinking Millwall would be closer but that was the old ground when Harry Cripps was the darling of the Den!

A groundshare with Fisher in Rotherhithe might make more sense, especially seeing as Fisher groundshared at Champion Hill in the 90s

Fisher’s ground doesn’t meet the necessary grading I believe so only Tooting and Carshalton were probable options. Not surprising they went for Tooting.

It wouldn't be reasonable to share with us. If we get promoted and have to get a grass pitch I think it will get buggered up in no time.
Incidentally I saw Peter Crouch brought this up in his Daily Mail column as apparently he played some games for them early in his career.

How about Dulwich and Tooting move into GGL, keep the pitch and Sutton move into Tootings ground. Sorted. Everyone a winner.
