As well as our Hall of Famers, new and existing, it was great to welcome so many ex-players back to The Lane yesterday including several old faces we haven't seen for many a year: Ken Grose, John Mears and Don Butterfill. Along with more regular visitors such as Dave Hutchins (who I found out was a fan from the age of 10, long before he started terrorising defenders), Larry Pritchard, Tony Rains, Ricky Kidd, Roy Osborne, Ted Shepherd and John Shears it was another day of nostalgia. We had four left-backs sitting in the stand ! There were some great conversations in the bar and some wonderful memories came flooding back.
With Bromley's current tribulations in mind, it is really hard to believe that it is over forty years since Don found himself relieving the siege on the Sutton end to race in on goal up at Spennymoor. And everyone still remembered Ian Stuart's save from Alan Gillett !
