As we write, no one knows if we will be in the National or the EFL next season, if the club are promoted things would need to change with the way the service is provided. There is requirement to put a service such as ours, video/commentary behind a paid wall, which means content would have to be paid for, probably in the form of subscriptions.
We are also considering, the option of streaming matches live to overseas viewers as part of any changes. Like many we don't know exactly what the future holds, but we are looking at making the service ready for EFL football with or without promotion this season, as it is likely that pressure will grow on National clubs to have a similar paid wall system in place at some point.
Football even at our level and certainly for EFL is changing with the advent of global audiences, and the ability to live stream anywhere in the world. Along with that comes opportunities to improve the service, but every yin has its yang.
Nothing is set in concrete, but as our core viewers we would like to ask you for your opinions on the way forward.

I think it could be fair on a match by match basis. Not happy with a year's subscription as I don't know how much of it I'd use.

Probaly in the minority but a live streaming service would be excellent for me. I presently buy a season ticket and for the one or two games I can get to see, the approximate cost is around £1000 per game. Most of this goes to airlines and hotels and travel related expenses. Paying a subscription to the club would be both cheaper and of more benefit to them. I’d still buy a season ticket either way.

I would certainly use a pay per view live streaming model from time to time. I say " time to time " since the time difference, currently 10.5 hours, makes it a bit tricky if you have a big Saturday night out and then try and stay awake until 1.30 am ...and that's just for kick off!
I would also probably subscribe for access to the highlights - subject to it being a reasonable cost.

Like Smiffydownunder I am also living in Adelaide, Australia. I would be happy to pay for highlights but without the score being known beforehand (if at all possible).

I get to most home games anyway, but if you can get a subscription service package across other clubs such that live streamed away matches are available then I would subscribe. With a busy family I can't always justify the time required to commit to all away fixtures, particularly now we are in a "national" league.

I often grumble about not being able to view highlights on league football matches. For example Wycombe, you get 2mins of free highlights on YouTube but to watch extended highlights you need to buy a subscription which is hugely annoying (and not something I want to do, or even plan to do).
However, I’d have no problem paying a subscription for my own football team, although it could limit our reach to other fans. For example, I see extended highlights for a recent Wycombe game (for free), see they play some lovely football so decide I’m going to go and watch a game when Sutton aren’t playing. If I hadn’t of seen the extended highlights, I wouldn’t have seen the quality of the football (just the goals, which all could have been scruffy) and therefore wouldn’t go and see a live game, so Wycombe miss out on the sale of a ticket.

Personally, I don’t really listen to the commentary as a I prefer Twitter and wouldn’t be willing to pay for commentary, in terms of Highlights, the extended Highlights are decent but I would be quite happy with the 2 minute footage that the EFL provide, I know other people will have different opinions...

Depending on the price of course but as an exiled fan (who gets to between 5 and 10 games each season) this service would be great and would be happy to contribute.

I regularly record ( nearly said tape) Channel 5 Saturday evenings, covers Championship plus EFL 1&2 highlights.

I normally attend the large majority of homes and most aways and if we do go up that won't change next season, but I would be interested in subscribing to content for games that I miss. Hopefully there will be an option to access highlights on a match-by-match basis. |
