We were right behind Ross's shot in the stand, certainly no deflection and a goal from the minute it left his food. Wonderful strike ! Wonderful strike doesn't do it justice. I saw watched it again and again on the highlights. Wow! One other thing from the highlights. Will we see a softer penalty awarded than theirs this season?

As for the penalty, and others I have seen given this season, the term 'soft penalty' now appears to be in the FA dictionary. What actually is a soft one? In my book its called taking a dive under any contact at all. Yesterdays one was not a penalty by any stretch of the imagination, the guy just falls like a sack of spuds.
I am not a ref, but if I was officiating and a player did that, I would shock them with a bright Yellow Card brandished in their face!

Dean took a chance and knew exactly what he was doing. I was seething at the time and it was so unnecessary, particularly so as he got a booking. The resulting free kick was far more dangerous than the attack would have been with their man chasing the ball towards the touchline. And as it turned out it lead to an undeserved goal.
The penalty may well have been soft, but anywhere else on the pitch and there would have been no complaints about a free kick, so we shouldn't complain about the decision in my opinion. Yet again though no need to have given the referee the option of giving it.
Ross is trying so hard to impress and grab a first team slot. He spent most of the match taking an extra touch, mishitting it into touch, forgetting to follow his man in a defensive role, and yet he scored a wonder strike. I hope he takes the confidence that comes with this to take him on to a higher level. As yet he is a National League South player looking to establish himself in a National League home in my opinion, and will have to strive to take a start from Kieron or Tom. Not sure how the selectors made him Motm, other than the goal, and just goes to show how an inch one way or the other off the post (no deflection I'm sure) can make a huge difference.
Glad we took the three, but in reality we should have been a long way clear and looking to make our goal difference even better. On to Maidenhead and Bromley, and hopefully they will have their minds elsewhere in relative safety allowing us to take the points that mean more to us than them.

Bit harsh on Stearny there, he put in some fine crosses that were a cut above most deliveries this season and could easily have yielded a goal or two. Im still of the belief the shot deflected off the defender's boot, but its neither here nor there. If not then a GOTS contender for sure. The 'pen' was a joke

The penalty came as a surprise as there was a more blatant one not given at the other end which I’m rather surprised that no one has mentioned. The challenge on Ross just a couple of minutes before he scored his Winder goal. My mate who’s a Fulham ST holder and a neutral just couldn’t believe it wasn’t given.

Im still of the belief the shot deflected off the defender's boot. It did, and just enough to put a little bit of spin on the ball to curl it into the goal.

From another angle. Where I sit in the stand is right in front of the press row and I often, as in the case of the Chester game, have the away teams' radio commentary guy talking into my right ear. And I imagine his microphone - but I would get a crick in the neck turning to find out. Anyway that is a sort of second pair of eyes and voice verifying what I think I am seeing - but it as nothing compared to the SUFCTV highlights shot from the opposite side. Neither I nor Charlie Chester saw a deflection on Ross Stearn's shot from right behind it, though from there you would not see a vertical deflection.
The radio ham was no wiser than I about about Sutton's second goal either, whereas it is a clear own-goal from the highlights. From where we sat the defender seemed to be heading the ball away from goal on to Byron's back. Tony D in the Sutton squawk-box has almost the same view and so announced it.

Just to clarify, the video is not clear on either goal, however Tony tells me Byron got the final touch. As for Ross's, he tells me it did not take a deflection. Ollie took some great pics from the cabin end which are worth checkout

I was stood behind the goal (towards the left) and what I remember about it was the spin on the ball. It really did curl into the goal - one of the best I have seen at GGL.

Splendid photos! You should ask him to post them on the forum each week?
