I'm in the camp that we could do without this. 46 league games in a tough league plus the FA comps is more than enough. The only way I'd personally want us to get involved is if we use the Surrey Senior side - i.e. a mix of academy players and first teamers in need of games. And also that costs were covered either through appearance/prize money and/or a sponsor for it. Oh I’m sure the sponsors would love that. We get an invitation to enter the tournament, disrespect the whole affair by fielding our academy players and get humped 12-0. Unless the club had the intention of taking it seriously, they wouldn't accept the invitation.

If we enter it then it will be the first team, the logistics of taking a bunch of school kids to Scotland to play a game they won’t win would be ridiculous. I’d like to see us accept the offer, it would likely be a one time opportunity to play new teams in new stadia, certainly interests me way more than the FA trophy ever does

Pros and cons to which I'd respect any decision the club makes.
I agree there's no point sending a whole academy side into games vs Full time clubs it would do more harm than good. If we are to do it we have do it properly as we are representing our club and league also.
I just think it would mean the Surrey Senior Cup the academy boys do the job without having 3-4 first teamers. The FA Trophy may take a backseat also as I agree with Gareth 46 games plus the rest is a lot to take on.
I do have my concerns about the travel expenses as two seasons ago we was going up to games on the day etc. However if we can cover costs then I'd love to see us go for it.
Be great to see us vs likes of Dundee United. Also realistically knowing the Scottish game we could go very far in this. The level isn't to dissimilar at Championship/League One to National League.

Save for an anomalous 2016 final, which featured Rangers, Scottish Challenge cup finals usually attract crowds in the region of 5-10,000. I don't think a cup final at a neutral venue in front of a crowd of a few thousand is preferable to a day out at Wembley in front of a crowd of tens of thousands... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Challenge_Cup

Aside from the financials, I think we'd be bonkers NOT to accept. It's a maximum of 5 games and actually a chance to go down in history yet again. If the rumours are true we're one of 2 teams invited to play. And lets face it some of these teams are not too bad to travel to as Barrow, Gateshead and Hartlepool. And it's an international tournament. And of course we could be drawn at home and go out in the first game - that's totally mitigated by the fact that we don't have home games postponed due to the weather.
I agree with what's been posted above though - we have to take it seriously, for ourselves (and I'm sure the players would love the chance to play this) and for our reputation. Throwing academy players into a tournament where we are one of the first two teams ever to be invited to play in is a kick in the face and will dirty our name as a club.
Remember of course, we're "expected" to be invited. No idea if we have yet, so it could be a lot of talk over nothing. But the thought of this is better than playing Chelsea kids any day of the week.

...although on second thoughts, we may well come into the competition at the second knockout round stage, so it probably is five games max after all!

And by the way - surely it's Irn Bru. Spiders? How can you support Brentford, Queens Park and Colliers Wood? Presumably you're a Sutton supporter too? Brentford is my club of choice since I was 15. (43 years). Queen's Park is my Scottish club of choice. (I was born in Queen's Park, Paddington). I have been secretary, web and programme editor at Colliers Wood in the past 11 years. (Just doing the website now). Watched Sutton hundreds of times but not an out and out supporter. Massive non-league football fan.

Queens Park are also my Scottish team. This stems from watching Great Britain's Amateurs beat Romania's full World Cup squad 1-0 at Wembley back in, err, 1971? (citation needed) in front of Sir Alf (watching, not managing, in case anyone wondered). Both fullbacks were the Scottish representation, and played brilliantly. Larry and Ted played too, although by then they'd moved on to Wycombe Wanderers.

I just saw a tweet from the club with a link to the OS saying this was confirmed ......... but then went back, and it was gone.
Edited to add the tweet is still there, it's the story on the OS that's now gone, but as the tweet says its the "draft" ...... maybe it's just being finalised and will reappear soon.

www.thenationalleague.org.uk/national-league-clubs-are-to-compete-in-the-irn-br-51196 Bruce Elliott, Chairman of Sutton United, said: “We're delighted to have been asked to compete in the Irn-Bru Cup. “Both manager Paul Doswell and I are excited at taking part in a competition that is new for us, and gives us the chance to encounter new opposition and play against sides that we would not meet in our normal schedule. We are thoroughly looking forward to it.”

"Sutton and Boreham Wood will join the competition at the second round stage" - only five wins required for the cup, nice!
