Getting back on topic, I don’t think we’d want any of the newly promoted sides on the opening day would we as they’ll have momentum with them.
I’d take Barrow or Eastleigh at home.

I quite fancy Barrow away in August (or September). As mentioned above, it would be handy to get such a long trip out of the way early in the season. And the Lake District should be very pleasant at that time of year. (Our recent trips up there have been in Jan/Feb and early March.)

Via Peterhead, your taking the scenic route I guess the A9 is rather boring. Yes the A9 is very boring, and not the safest place to be walking either. But you're right I am somewhat off what might be considered a "normal" route. Given I am aiming for the most western bit of the mainland it's a bit odd to be at the most eastern part of Scotland. The reason, as odd as it might sound, is that I used to work for a Scottish bank until recent redundancy. I have made many visits to Scotland in the past, but always to either Edinburgh or Glasgow. Imagine being Scottish (or Welsh or Irish) and visiting London and then claiming to have "done" England. A nonsense. By hugging the East coast I am managing to "bag" Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, and Perth, as well as countless other smaller places (and giving my hamstring the chance of avoiding the Cairngorms). Maybe more applicable to the Irn-Bru cup thread than this one, but it is interesting to note how many Highland League grounds I have seen already, and by the end of this first leg of the walk, the number of Scottish football grounds I will have seen will be impressive. Whether I will get to return to any of them wearing my "amber colours", or not, we will see over the coming season. Amazing! Maybe a daily report on a dedicated thread?

Yes i could start a new thread, I certainly don't see any point in dominating this one. In the meantime you might want to look at jogtolandsend.co.uk if anyone is interested in progress (and the story so far). Words are my "thing", not technology, so I don't know whether that takes you to the latest blog page, or the beginning, but I'm sure you can all work it out. I am told you can "subscribe" too which means you get an email every time it is updated. So far I have posted something for each day. Anyway, back to the football...

Barrow away is nice and weather friendly this year. Anyone want to make some super early odds on Eastleigh's pitch being fit for January 19th?

Midweek fixtures are looking rather kind at the moment - furthest I can see away is Braintree, but Chesterfield have to come to us midweek too. Maybe the Irn-Bru cup has also worked in our favour to give us the xmas fixtures we really deserve. Fylde and Halifax away in December though -brrrrrr! Mind you after last night's game I could see that Colombia obviously did their world cup prep at the Shay!

A run to the 4th round of the IRN Bru cup would send us to Gateshead on a Tuesday 2nd round of the FA cup to Fylde on a Tueday And if we got to the final of the FA Trophy Salford, Dagenham and Gateshead.
Midweeks fixtures then turn quite nasty

Amendment required to the fixtures updated on the official site. It currently shows two fixtures scheduled for 30th March! Chesterfield away is actually on the 23rd. Other than that, a fine job getting them updated so quickly.
