Just to put a bit of context here.
A cardiac surgeon on average earns around £80k a year. Adam Rooney, as a non league footballer playing in the 5th level of football will be earning more than double that.
I'll let you all draw your own conclusions to that....

...a job at Salford pays more than working with Aberdeen and Hearts combined.

They will be the team that everyone wants to beat and to stop them playing.

I find it particularly extraordinary that after leading Salford to three promotions in just four seasons, joint managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley's not unreasonable requests for more favourable terms to their contracts were refused outright. This happened in spite of the fact that Salford's owners are clearly not short of a few bob, having since replaced their former managers with a Division One manager, and bolstered the squad with several football league players on inflated contracts. I do think it's something of a problem when the individuals responsible for a large part of Salford's success get off-loaded and replaced with "better" individuals. The message at Salford seems to be - if you do well enough to progress us up the divisions then we will replace you. I'm not sure that's a particularly healthy message to be sending out. I also consider the suggestion that if Salford's current owners lose interest and leave the the club, they will have left a "legacy" behind them, fanciful at best. On the contrary, they would be leaving behind a financially unsustainable enterprise spending well beyond its means. As others have observed, we have seen this happen many times before, and we all know how the story invariably ends. However, whilst the Neville brothers et al remain onboard and willing to flash the cash, and they certainly seem wholeheartedly passionate and committed from what I have seen, I have no doubt the club will continue to do well, but long-term is an altogether different story... According to Mrs OS, who knows about such things, the ex joint managers at Salford City, went full time a couple of seasons ago, both giving up their own businesses. They took an overall pay cut to take the job, and she thinks the salaries were 40k each. Last season the 2 Nevilles told them they could not afford to keep them both so, they would either need to take £20k each or one would have to leave. I am sure all the old episodes are on the net somewhere but I can't be bothered to look. There seems to have been a complete change of ethos ??

Yes, it's a total U-turn in philosophy and narrative. Quite the kick in the teeth to your former managers to plead poverty, only to reel in a former division one manager and half a squad's worth of league players as soon as they're out of the door. Some may not have a problem with such duplicity, but others may consider that decidedly underhand...

I hate Manchester United passionately and basically this is Manchester United mark 2. I'm therefore praying for a massive failure here.

I've got nothing against the team per se, and I've always had a soft spot for Salford since childhood, being a massive Joy Division/New Order fan. It's just the way they are being run that I have some concerns about, and I think Johnson and Morley have been treated very shoddily after their years of loyal service to the club. Saying that, the academy set up, the stadium, the training facilities etc. are all admirable and I very much look forward to visiting the ground this season.

Sutton supporters will see Salford in just over a fortnight's time, as they come to GGL on Sat 11 August. Early in the season might be a good time to play them.
The return fixture is scheduled for Sat 2 February. But that's an FA Trophy date, so there's a fair chance we end up travelling there mid-week.

Chester have just taken three players from Salford City on season long loans so the relationship between Johnson/Morley and SCFC can’t be too bad.

I'm rather glad the joint managers have gone .What Salford have done is appoint a new manager who as far as i know has no experience at this level and may be in for a bit of a shock !
