Be interested to know how he is getting on at Sutton. I see he has made a few starts and some appearances from the bench. Mick McCarthy got him in from Ireland last season but he was very raw. Good luck this season.

Had a good look at him now and not convinced he's any more than an impact player from the bench at this stage. He's hard working and a handful for defenders but an awful long way from a complete striker. Has had 3 or 4 good chances and not managed to put one away but can't fault his work rate. Contrast to ayunga who tonight looked like our missing link. His touch, link up play and general football awareness was far superior and I can't wait to see more of him. Didn't get any sights of goal so obviously finishing is an unknown but for me he looks like everything we need and I expect drinans chances will be limited if ayunga is fit.

I have to ape baboonfish here... He may well end up a great player, but not now, and not with us.

I have to ape baboonfish here... He may well end up a great player, but not now, and not with us. I am really surprised that Aaron could ever have shown enough to a Championship scout. Players who can hold their own at that level are capable - not necessarily of more skill than a Conference player - but of being able to do it at a faster pace. In a striker that would show up in control when receiving a pass, and the anticipation needed to get ahead of a marker, and getting up for a header that fraction earlier so as to meet the ball with the forehead and not higher on the skull. So far Aaron has not looked any different from a sub at this level.

It’s all about the pace in which they execute the task and the anticipation of what’s next in any part of the pitch - reading the game the experts call it (who are the experts)!

Many thanks for all your comments. Very useful. It was definitely a hunch signing from McCarthy - he has made a few of those over the years from Ireland. Hope he improves for you.
