Yeah, everyone has different opinions and I respect that but I genuinely can't understand the thinking behind "forget all this grand history stuff - nonsense!" That is what writes our stories, it's what gets people interested in us. You don't get nationwide publicity and news stories for doing OK in the league. When you're away and get strangers coming up and asking what team's colours you're wearing, they don't say "Oh yeah, Sutton, that's the team that finished 3rd in the National League." They don't say "You won the league and got promoted, didn't you?" No, they say "You beat Coventry or someone once, right?" or "Aren't you that team who played Arsenal in the FA Cup?"
If you prefer just grinding out results week after week in the league, then that's OK! But we were never going to be favourites to win this division so why focus solely on a goal that would be so hard to achieve at the expense of other ventures that may gain us publicity and money and other wonderful things? That would be setting the club up to fail and while it's very much POSSIBLE for us to get promoted, chances are we won't. Almost getting promoted, maybe, if we do well, isn't a great way to make a splash and progress as a club.

So...it appears that when those North London fancy-dans came trundling down the A217 for an FA Cup tie relayed to the Nation and beyond there were quite a few of our fans who would rather we had taken a dive against Dartford so we could have concentrated on going toe to toe with North Ferriby United in the league and concentrating on the SSC instead (a local cup so not a problem)

Methinks that Mr Meldrew is 'trolling' in a light-hearted manner (again!)

Never did see the point of that.

Never did see the point of that. Perhaps Mrs Meldrew wouldn't let him go to Dublin so he's taking it out on everyone else?

Well Meldrew might be a stick in the mud. But he ain't gonna spoil my enjoyment. I've just booked flights to Dubbers for the Day and thoroughly looking forward to this. Planning with starting with the Black and Creamy followed by the Chocolate and Amber. Look forward to joining anyone for a pre-match pint if anyone knows somewhere to meet up?

How did the ones going find digs price wise?,I had to look by the ground in phibsborough worked out a hell of a lot cheaper than the city centre about 40 mins walk from temple which I don't mind. Plus got a nice discount from air B&B which is nice of them 😀. Really expensive, even travelodges in awkward seeming locations. Ended up going for the cheapest hotel in the centre I could find, even with a hotels.com 15% off voucher I couldn't justify more than one night at those prices though. Not been brave enough to try air B&B yet. (Am going from north Wales so getting the morning ferry from Holyhead and going back on Sunday - it's doable as a day trip but a 2am ferry and 3 hours in Holyhead at 5 in the morning really didn't appeal!)

Stupidly expensive, but with Ireland playing Denmark that night at the Aviva, and Dublin being pretty expensive in general, I wasn't entirely surprised. We've ended up booking in the Premier Inn near the airport as it's at least half the price of anywhere in the city centre, and it's only a €25-30 cab ride into town.

Bohemians club bars sound great. I think that's where we'll head pre match. I'm at fever pitch excitement already, but that is probably because everything is booked etc. A dose of Boring wood on Tuesday should dampen things down

Opens at 1 on the Saturday so may well be looking at somewhere before for the hardcore, the black page is a 10 minute walk food looks great and opens from 10am lovely jubbly.

Good shout, although it's called 'The Back Page'. There's also a crazy golf course (for the Gandermonium crew?!)

Booked my flights last night. Get to the ground close to lunchtime, few pints of the black stuff and then either take in the international (cheap tickets available) or go have a jig down at Temple Bar. Drink the night away before 6am flight home.
I for one am buzzing about this tie....just the small task of telling Mrs B that I'm going on a day trip to Dublin!!

Sorry if this has been asked already - Mrs has just come home and said about this Dublin thing - she hates football lol - how far is the ground out of central Dublin - is it a taxi or train journey?
