Come on Sutton Lads

Earlier this year I finally got around to rewriting and recording a song that I had originally written and recorded back in 1983.

This newly formatted song was inspired by the catchcry of Barry Aplin.

A fair few of you reading this would have known Barry; for those of you who didn’t Barry was a 'lifer ' at Sutton United FC - from pitch to boardroom, from goalkeeper to Chairman, from the 70’s to the 00’s.

Whenever he felt the team needed some encouragement on the pitch he would invariably shout out, in a wonderful booming voice, "Come on Sutton lads, come on now!”

Barry’s is the first voice to be heard on the song, followed by Bruce, Dos and then finally Barrie Williams.
The pale imitation of Barry’s catchcry is done by myself.

All proceeds from the song are being donated to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

I know that there are numerous worthwhile charities out there but if you can spare a couple of pounds it will make a difference in the fight against cancer.

More than a respectful nod to PWEI's underrated classic Touched By The Hand Of Cicciolina there, and the balearic-tinged piano is a nice touch too. Well played.

After reading your comments I then had to go and youtube Touched By The Hand Of Cicciolina and I can see what you mean. However I had not heard that song before ...I'll have to check with the Sound Engineer/Producer.... he may have had an 'outside' influence !

Incidentally, "Touched By The Hand Of Cicciolina" is a sly dig at New Order, who were responsible for the considerably better known official World Cup 1990 song "World In Motion". PWEI's World Cup song was decidedly unofficial, referencing as it did, a certain Italian lady infamous for her non-family friendly films. The song title was a perversion of the New Order song "Touched By The Hand Of God", which as far as I know, had nothing whatsoever to do with Maradona, but by using the title for a football song, PWEI certainly invited the listener to make that connection...
