Bizarre match. Not often I've felt almost apologetic about winning but had to sympathise with Wealdstone as they probably deserved a draw. It's possible the ref got all 4 penalty decisions wrong and obviously he had an overbearing influence on what could have been an excellent cup tie but instead it will just be remembered as another weird game and an odd refereeing display. Stones number 11 was possibly the best player on the park and caused us problems all day long but thankfully was wasteful with his end product, while Thomas and the faultless Butler stood out for us. Drinan was hopelessly miscast as a central striker but fair play to the lad as soon as he was moved out to the left he put in some very dangerous crosses and scored a very composed winner after jonahs superb skill. Bailey should have known better than to talk his way to an early bath but without his histrionics it may well have ended very differently

I believe the 1st round draw is on Monday at 7pm on BBC2. What an ending, almost dropped the boy on his head!! Immediately prior to the big derby with SCR! That should help the gate. The BBC must have scheduled it deliberately!

The game may have been a little low on quality but it more than made up for that in drama. A reminder why Association Football is still the greatest sport on the planet.
Sutton were on top in the first half, playing down the slope, but Kieron's thunderous shot that crashed off the goal-frame was the closest we came to scoring. The same player might have earned a penalty just before half-time as he appeared to be impeded in the box, but referee Mr Allison wasn't persuaded. He did though award three penalties in the second half, Bradley Bubb converting for Wealdstone then the returning JC for us before Stones had their second chance from the spot in the dying minutes. This time though Jamie B saved Bubb's spot kick, with Nicky B red-carded in the build-up. There was still time for a surging run from Jonah to set up Aaron Drinan who fired home the winner, his first goal in Sutton colours. It won't be one that's quickly forgotten.

Wow. We won't see a more dramatic 5 mins of footy like today for a while! We did a great job today in a tough situation and credit to all for getting the job done today (I expected a Tuesday night at Sutton).
Aside from the usual plaudits (And great to see Aaron get on the scoresheet at last) just want to put in a word about Aswad. He's not been the fans favourite since had arrived but throughout October he's been superb and today was no exception!
Wealdstone fans I found pleasant and friendly too (having witnessed what happened last time we got a last min winner against them I feared the worst). Unlike some of ours who I thought crossed the line today and even before some idiot let the flare off. Some of the worst offenders I don't recognise as regulars, and it was a world away from last Saturday. Let's hope this is a one off.
Now onto Monday. It's not often that a Sutton match is the 2nd most important thing to happen in a day for a Sutton fan.

Day didn't start well with the traffic on the M25, and got there about 10mins after KO, I am informed I didn't miss much?
I thought in the end 2-1 was a fair reflection of the game, Wealdstone had there moments, were a threat on the counter, but in truth for the most it was us on the attack. Level with 1st half tug in the box, for me its enough for a penalty to be given. Didn't really have a clear view of the 3 that were given so will reserve judgement. JB MOTM of the Match with not only the penalty save but a true worldy. We really should have scored more, but that has been our nemesis, lets hope that Arian and Jonah now off the mark it proves pivotal.
I had a feeling the winning goal was coming after that penalty save, and it was a moment of quality with Jonah laying it off for Arian to slot home to spark some chaotic scenes.
One thing I would say is I found the small section of U's fans who call themselves 'yoof' somewhat embarrassing for our club. Win lose of draw its not acceptable to try and smash up opponents terracing, encroach onto the pitch, let off smoke bombs, and then goad the home fans on their way out - MAYBE THEY SHOULD TAKE A GOOD HARD LOOK AT THEMSELVES!!!

What a match. Same as OS 10 mins late coming in and was expecting to see Ross in goal as Dos had alluded to in one of his earlier interviews. As it turned out Jamie saved our bacon so we should all be thanking him for the 25K the club receives. Always difficult with the sloping pitch of what was once Ruislip Manor's ground. Thought the ref was dreadful but when isn't he. Let's hope for a good draw on Monday where there is 36K at stake.

Unless we're 3-0 up (or more) with ten to go, I hate the 4q round. So much at stake these days with the financial package for progress and then the hope of a decent draw in the competition proper. The tension. And yesterday, provided far more tension than is good for the heart.
It was a scrappy but typical cup tie with the home side looking for an upset and U's hoping the misery they have inflicted upon some notable names over the years wasn't to be heaped upon them.
The Grosvenor Vale pitch looked pretty decent save for the slope that tends to dictate matters and with U's playing down it in the first half they had plenty of the ball but failed to really test home 'keeper, North. KC drove a fine effort against the woodwork and then on h-t was impeded as he latched onto a poor back pass. It was a penalty as he was denied a proper shooting opportunity by the contact. What it certainly wasn't was the corner that was given.
Second half was as expected; the home side exploiting the slope and looking far more dangerous with arguably the best attacking player on the pitch, Shomotun full of running. The first pen was indeed a pen and Bubb dispatched it down the middle.
Nicky B, who i thought was a bit under par, probably not surprising after his injury, headed a fine chance over but U's got in the match from another penalty decision that is still quite baffling. If it was handball it wasn't obvious and if it was a foul on Aswad it was very soft. Skip as good as told North where he was going to put it such was his body shape but Captain Cool still found the corner via the 'keepers fingers. Precision and power.
U's best chance of taking the lead saw sub Jonah A head a great opportunity just wide but while the match was full of honest endeavour it was low on quality, typifying the stage of the competition we were at.
Then the dramatic climax. Pen for another pretty soft foul by Nicky B. A second yellow, presumably for dissent and so while he sat in the dressing room it all happened. Jamie B who made two terrific saves in the second half - the one from Pratt's header was outstanding - guessed right and Bubb's second spot kick was comfortably saved. Then Jonah receives the ball turns and takes three defenders out to feed Aaron and his low shot goes in via a slight deflection. £25k in the bag.
Micky Stephens gets booked for the first time in his Sutton career (over 500 appearances) if not ever for I assume over celebrating from the dug out but who cares, eh?
And that somewhat sums up the officials' afternoon. Some dread arrived for me when I saw who was refereeing and he did not disappoint. He loves a penalty decision does Mr Allison which does make you wonder how he missed that one on KC, although not helped by his assistant. Erratic, irrational and very whistle happy; so many free-kicks where the slightest physical contact was punished. I thought his card use was ok though except for Jamie B's late booking which was a joke. Shouldn't complain too much though as we have won the last three away matches where he was in the middle and of course Dartford away on that cup run.
Other observations. 'Stones have done a decent job in maximising the tight space they have to continue to develop GV. Their fans appeared to be applauding U's off as they headed down the tunnel - no Palmer and an abandoned garden fork. Finally their programme is excellent (although we lost to Swindon 2-1 not 3-2 - another last minute winner that evening too).
Apparently, Nicky B's red means he misses the next round as cards are now competition specific although that needs to be confirmed by those that know for sure.
So onto Monday night. The draw and then our lodgers with home billing for the SSC.

Some of the “yoof” that you refer to are hard working volunteers for the club most visible when they are manning the car park at home games from about 11:45 on a match day. Their support is noisy and sometimes can border on the boistrerous but they travel the highways and byeways of Albion to follow the team. The lads are respectful towards their elders, they can form quite coherent sentences and are quite articulate when the mood takes them. So may I suggest that you engage with them if there are things that you think are wrong. You might be pleasantly surprised by the response(s) that you get.

I don't think that was the issue on Saturday. The worst offenders (i.e. the one who tried to manhandle their keeper at half time and I would expect the one with the flare) are not the same people as you refer to. I agree it's wrong to lump the yoof in all together and those you talk of (who would occasionally cross the line a little) were not the ones who would cause that level of damage. And I expect the worst idiots on Saturday won't be bothered to make the trip to Hartlepool this Saturday either. But by the same logic, just because a supporter travels near and far or volunteers at home games, it doesn't give them the right to act like an idiot or put themselves or others in danger.

Some of the “yoof” that you refer to are hard working volunteers for the club most visible when they are manning the car park at home games from about 11:45 on a match day. Good for them! We appreciate it hugely. Without volunteers this club would be nothing BUT Just because they do good things doesn't mean it's OK to do bad things too. This is unacceptable and needs to stop. The time, money and effort spent by some of our fans is truly admirable, particularly when you consider many are in full time education. I applaud them. BUT Just because they do good things doesn't mean it's OK to do bad things too. This is unacceptable and needs to stop. Don't get me wrong, nobody thinks these lads are thugs, but it's a bit intimidating to approach a large group of boisterous youths and one wouldn't expect them to stop what they're doing because they've just been politely told off. Most people would expect lads of that age to ignore them or worse. Some of them read the forum don't they? In which case guys, please know we hugely appreciate all you do for this club but PLEASE remember if you're representing SUFC then our reputation is at stake if you do daft things like setting off smoke bombs and smashing things. It makes our club look really bad. Also as Andy said, the ones who do good stuff for the club probably aren't the ones who act like idiots. Can we all look out for our mates too? Don't let your friends do stupid things that will get them in trouble.

So may I suggest that you engage with them if there are things that you think are wrong. You might be pleasantly surprised by the response(s) that you get. Sallycat has covered a lot of this in her excellent post. I do know some of the individuals involved, but choose not to point fingers, so firstly certainly not all, and I did say in my original post a 'small section'. Having said that, I am afraid there is a line, and some of these lads are crossing it. If you wear the badge, or a club shirt you represent our club whether you be. If you act badly it reflects badly on the club we all care about, and can actually come back to bite not only those responsibility on the bum but the club as well. So what did I see, I saw a number of 'yoof' attacking the back of the terrace for no reason other than to attempt to damage it, that is not support? I saw at least one supporters jump over the barrier and on to the pitch after we scored the winner, that is actually something you don't have the right to do, and if it wasn't for people doing that in the 70s/80s Hillsborough would never have happened. Now the smoke bomb, that is a criminal offence, and could see the person involved not only banned from all football, but with a criminal record. The rest of you should stop this guy for his own good. Upon leaving the ground I saw that 'small section' attempting to goad and wind up the Stones fans on their way out. I actually mind this the least, its simple, if the far greater number of Stones fans had of been minded, they could easily of had you for breakfast. Don't do it, as one day the home support after losing in the last minute may not be so forgiving. Before you start thinking this old guy, doesn't know what he is talking about, I like others on here have been there, done it, and got the t-shirt. Yes support your team but calm it down lads...

I would think that the last paragraph you wrote saying that you've been there and done it should make people realise that you know what you are talking about.
You'd think and hope, though.

That's something I failed to mention but yeah I probably should have said I've been there and done it too. Absolutely agree, have fun and support your team but know where that line is.
