Saturday marks our last away game for a little while as we make another long journey - this time up north to Hartlepool. It’s no doubt been an expensive time being a Sutton fan if you’ve already travelled to Barrow and Bohemians in the month of October.
Fond memories of last season’s visit to Victoria Park with Wrighty’s equaliser right at the death and then seeing Jeff Stellings anguish on Gillette Soccer Saturday.
A tough encounter for us this one as Hartlepool seem an improved unit this season - currently sitting in 8th (2 points ahead of us). Hope we get something from this game.

Hartlepool's home record this season is W3D4L1. That single defeat was to Ebbsfleet (0-1) back in August.
I'm setting off shortly. It's going to be bitterly cold up there, so wrap up warm everyone who's travelling!

Unreal the way we keep churning these results out. Can’t speak highly enough about this group of players and of course the management team.

Pendulum of a game, one in which Pools had a bit more of the ball but were ultimately beaten by two exquisite Sutton goals.
Sutton took the lead in scrappy fashion, JC heading back a corner and his team-mates having a couple of digs before Aswad (we think!) forced the ball over the line. Pools equalised with a similar goal very early in the second half and a few minutes later were ahead, Noble's free kick apparently taking a deflection on the way in.
Sutton equalised when Jonah's run took him within shooting range but he foxed the defence by laying the ball off to Tom B who fired home. Suddenly our tails were up. For the winner it was Aaron's turn to be provider, Craig E curling a peach of a shot past Scott Loach.
Our first victory over Pools takes us above them to 8th.

Huddled behind the goal under the covering, it wasn't easy to appreciate the strength of the wind and while it didn't dictate the game in the way it did at Daventry all those years back it certainly dictated the flow. The weather certainly appeared to put off the locals as Hartlepool recorded their lowest league gate of the season with 68 travelling fans. Not that it stopped the home fans picking up where they started last season in the moaning stakes.
A Sutton player goes down - moan. A 'Pool player ends up on the deck - moan. Did they actually get behind their team at any time yesterday? And boy, did the home players go down. Yesterday was cast iron evidence that the non-contact sport seen in the PL has arrived at NL level. A sanitised version of the game from the past. Of course, the Durham based ref duly obliged and from one "soft" free-kick they got their second goal.
Anyway, what a superb win. Up there for me with winning at Tranmere last season and Orient, this. The team showed immense character to drag themselves back into the game and then go on and win it. The first half U's "enjoyed" the conditions and although they threatened at times 'Pool rarely had a decent sight of goal as the back four stayed firm. The goal was scruffy but they all count and had Aaron D found Jonah A after a well constructed break away a two goal lead which was surely the minimum needed may have been realised.
Within the first five minutes of the second half Sutton was chasing the game but having weathered - literally - the expected pressure, U's broke with purpose and for the third match running Jonah powered away to set up Tom B who's shot had enough power to beat Loach.
The battle continued. Soft free-kicks everywhere and then another break with KC and Aaron involved before the ball ended up Craig E and the view from the side of behind the goal did not allow for the appreciation of such a fine finish. Left foot too. Brilliant. Not even an ill-timed whistle from Mr Miller (North Ferriby away) could thwart Easty this time.
Sutton was pretty comfortable after that and a deserved three points were trousered.
The HU forum and indeed the crowd on the day gave the ref some stick. They thought Dale B should have had a second yellow after a foul but having giving stiff lectures for two similar challenges (one on each side) earlier the ref showed some consistency in keeping to that ploy. It was probably all we got out of him all afternoon. Viewing pics of the snowfall in his neck of the woods, hope he got home without too much trouble.
The journey home was, as you can imagine, a happy one.
A big test up next as we host Chesterfield who are slowly turning around their form. No doubt some Sutton fans will need a sat-nav to remember where the ground is, as for most it has been weeks since they were there.

Terrific win by the team yesterday who displayed enormous character to come back and win that game from a losing position playing against such a stiff wind in the second half and after a very long journey. A special group of players.
That was our fourth consecutive Saturday playing away from GGL, three of them very long journeys plus, of course, that thrilling FA Cup tie at Wealdstone. The away support has been tremendous at all these games and I know that Dos, who I caught up with after yesterday’s match, is very keen to let everyone know how much the players appreciate that support and what a boost it gives them. A big well done and thanks from him and the team and a special mention to our ever-growing band of young fans for the noise and colour they provide in support of the team. Keep that positive support up guys and gals as we enter the crucial next month of the season please!
It’s been an expensive but rewarding month - now let’s make November “Amber and Loud”

Another great win for SUFC over the weekend, as our women's team triumphed over league leaders Leyton Orient 3-4 away from home, after overcoming a 2-0 deficit. We are now 4 points behind the Orient but with two games in hand, so the title challenge is still very much on...
