Hardly a classic for the BT Sport cameras, but this was the third meeting between these two clubs in less than three weeks. As in the Trophy game, we took the lead in open play only to concede twice from set pieces.
I thought Bromley showed more composure over the ninety minutes, though we came close to grinding out a point and might even have snatched a winner before their late clincher. A missed opportunity to move up into a play-off position, but nine points from our last four games is a decent return. And a win over Harrogate on Saturday would still take us into the top seven.

No complaints. About today’s result, the MoM Okoye, or Sutton’s haul of 9 points out of 12. A smart piece of footwork on the edge of Bromley’s area from Kenny got the ball back under control when a defender shinned it back to him. His shot went right into the bottom corner to give us a lead which thereafter looked precarious as Bromley pressed forward. Today their running with the ball at defenders was a lot better than ours. A simple error led to Bromley’s equalizer. Williams tracked Okoye into our area when he came up for a corner - for all but the last 2 yards! With the result Okoye had an unchallenged header beyond Butler’s right upright - which might have found its way in at the opposite post until it hit Hooper on the back and went in. Bromley’s winner was scored from a corner by a lanky sub (Goodman) who took up a position again beyond Butler’s right upright and headed in with his first touch. Critically Colllins had gone off by then. Had Skip been on, It might still have been true that Bromley had more players in our box who could score with a header than Sutton had who could defend with a header, but you fancy Skip would have chosen to mark the newcomer (whose last goal was also a header against us). GarethL lists the second half chances we had - enough to win but not with the weak finishing shots or headers we tried. The exception being Brandon who forced the keeper into saves with two thumping efforts. Easty’s miss was particularly galling since he timed his run from midfield perfectly - the cross in was right on his head, but he ducked into the header instead of meeting the ball with his forehead and put the effort over the bar. Butler’s kicks out of his area only once found a U’s player – that one being Ayunga on the left touchline. MoM Okyoe won every aerial contest, but many of Butler’s kicks dropped nowhere a U’s forward was prepared to run. That is the forwards’ fault not the keeper’s, but when that is happening you do need a change of plan. A ‘customers game’ may still have been played with Touré only coming on for the last minute. Spennymoor will have been watching, since they will be facing one of these teams in the Trophy after the FA’s deliberations and maybe Dos did not want to show his hand.

Dos didn't want to show his hand to a lower league side that we are far from certain to be playing (and as it currently stands we are not playing). Will the same thing happen on Saturday if we have been reinstated? Or did Bromley give a stuff if Spennymoor were watching? Ludicrous.

Yep can't grumble at 9pts from 12 so I wont.
But as for tonight's performance and the one on Saturday, we don't seem to know what to do when we are in front. On both occasions we came out firing, got the lead and went back into our shell. I don't know why that is, as a normal Dos side would bomb on. It maybe something to do with our goals not coming from our attackers, as they are simple coming from defenders and mid fielders. We had the chances to win tonight, but even they were falling to the likes of Brandon and Eastie.
Young Brandon will learn from the Bromley winner, which was a stroke of clever management by Neil Smith to bring on Goodman.
As I say very happy with where we are, but I know this squad has more in its locker, and Dos is trying to find that damn key...

Any chance we could learn to defend far post corners? That was the difference between at least a point and nothing, very disappointing to concede from yet more set pieces, been a real achilles heel this season. 3 points each between the two games definitely fair, although two draws would have been more realistic, there was nothing between the sides and to be frank there's a rizla between most of the teams in the league. At least we dont have to play them again......(tempts fate). here's hoping Collins' injury was just a knock as Pearce badly needs his leadership alongside him. Correct me if I am wrong but cannot remember having a shot in the second half until we conceded the second goal. Certainly had no corners. Did not win a single aerial challenge up front. Bromley have worked us out. So that was just the 6 you missed! Are you sure you were watching the same game? Missed 2 good chances to equalise too

Not sure it was much of a clever move on their part. It was like for like sub due to injury. Nor would JC have marked the guy coming on. He was marking their (historically) biggest set piece goal threat - Holland.

Young Brandon will learn from the Bromley winner, which was a stroke of clever management by Neil Smith to bring on Goodman. You mean Bradley of course..as Brandon had been substituted by then. Annoyed to slip to defeat last night - both goals conceded down to us not dealing with Bromley’s aerial threats. We had plenty of chances to fashion an equaliser in the second half but unfortunately wasn’t to be. Bit bored of playing this lot now so hoping we won’t be summoned to play them in a Trophy replay once the decision comes out.

I remember the sub coming on just before the second goal and I said to those around me "there we go, deep corner and this guy will head it in". Sadly I was right to the smallest detail. That's not good, when even the Defender of the Faith is convinced we’re going to concede a goal.
I must admit, when Jamie had to come off, I had a bad feeling about how things were going to pan out.
In the final analysis though, Bromley played better than us and deserved to win. God, it’s a tough league this season.

Defender of the faith! Ha ha I like that. Sadly my spectacles are generally less amber tinted than most, but you are right with JC who had a great game and was winning a lot in the air.

I thought it was a good game. Bromley were excellent and in the main we defended well, a point picked up by Adam Virgo in commentary
I imagine we created more chances in this game than the previous two combined and we’ve played a lot worse and won by that’s football for you.
Whilst it’s true we’ve conceded 4 goals to Bromley from crosses/set plays we do have to note the quality involved. I haven’t seen another National side this season that has consistently delivered the quality they did throughout the game yesterday.
For him Carl Brook has an excellent game. No qualms with the bookings although he did miss the guy trying to take out TB just after Bennett did a tackle that got him booked once the ball had gone out of play.
Andy K, am I right that you missed the previous 3 games? I think you’ve jinxed us and need to return to Cyprus 😜

Perhaps billy will be kind enough for me to pay for me to move out there...

Winning four from four over he fesive period was always a big ask so a return of nine points can't be sniffed at.
Having said that U's had the second half chances to win last night's match even if Bromley was arguably the better side across the piece. The chances created were more clear cut than practically anything the home side managed in open play but once again their delivery of set pieces was U's downfall. With MotM Okoye (not Parry as I kept calling him) was a menace in both boxes and his back post header from an in-swinging corner set up their equaliser although Hooper knew very little about his involvement and then on comes their sub to head home an 89th minute winner from another corner. Of course, Kenny D did marvellously to score with a low shot after ten minutes.
Bromley was the bigger threat in the first half but Brandon A-T went close with a curling effort that could have doubled U's advantage. Second half, U's had at least three clear scoring opportunities but couldn't take them and so a first defeat away from home since that officiating debacle at Barrow was recorded.
For the third time this season we had to endure Mr Brook on away ground; has club or ref asked for him not to officiate at GGL? He probably had his best game out of the three - not that beating the previous two would have been difficult - and you can't really argue about the yellows we picked up but how did he not book the guy for the attempted swipe on Tom B? Too ready to get the card out for Dale B I suspect. Can't expect him to be able to handle two incidents at once.
It was quite notable how often the Bromley players moaned even when they won a free-kick and their no 4 is obviously made out of a precious material. God, he was dreadful.
I reckon Bromley got the rub of the green last night but in the final analysis, missed chances cost U's dear in what was a half decent match. Let's hope there ain't another one though.
On to Harrogate without skip but Dean B is a more than reliable addition to the starting XI.
