In 2018, Swiss coach Vladimir Petkovic wisely opined that politics and football should "never mix". However, it would appear that in a desperate bid to appear less boring/increase their fanbase, Boreham Wood F.C. have plunged themselves headlong into the political fray... www.borehamwoodfootballclub.co.uk/uncategorized/mps-do-your-duty/With just one win from their last five league games, perhaps they should spend less time focusing on "off-the-ball" incidents...

This, I have to say and say this on whichever side of the debate one sits on, is a stunningly awful PR stunt. By posting that (which at no point makes any reference to the club itself), they are giving the assumption that this is the belief of all who work for BW, all the players and all the supporters. Also by implication, this is the view held by the sponsors of the club, many of which I'm sure want to stay out of this debate.
Awful behaviour from an awful club, I expect in the name of getting free publicity.

When I read the title of this thread, I was readying myself to remind people that sport and politics are inevitably linked e.g the Old Firm games, Barcelona as a vehicle of Catalan nationalism, Athletic Bilbao likewise in Euskal Herria etc.
BUT this is quite frankly ridiculous. No one would expect any club, let alone one as insignificant as Boreham Wood, to wade in and attempt to direct parliament. Should be reposted and ridiculed.

The statement ends with this
Why July? I thought Article 50 expired at back end of March
Are Boreham Wood 4 months behind the rest of Britain?

Given that there is such a huge diversity of public opinion on this particular issue, how this particular viewpoint can in any way represent the beliefs of the entire club and their fans is beyond me. They think Boreham Wood's credibility is over... it is now.

I strongly suspect that these are the views of the Boreham Wood chairman. If so, he's acting rather like Tim Martin, chairman of JD Wetherspoon, by using a media channel of his business to broadcast his personal opinions on Brexit.

I wish we wouldn’t have to mix Boreham Wood and football to be honest

Unbelievably stupid and frankly self-centred move IMO. Why would anyone think it a good idea to mix two things that people have very strong views on, get emotional about and which can be really divisive? It might make some people more inclined to support the club but it will drive just as many people away.

I have no idea who Humphrey Lancaster is, but he appears to be labouring under the misapprehension that Boreham Wood F.C. are a public body... good grief.

Either that or good old fashioned sarcasm.
I somehow doubt it though.

Football's Holy Grail is that it mixes Right with Left, Doctors and Shop Assistants, Labour and Tory, Remain and Leave, black & white etc.
At our individual clubs we are all one and all equal, once you start to bring the outside world in you will cause divisions within your own ranks.
I don't know if the Wood chairman has broken any league or FA rule, but he has certainly broken the number 1 moral code of our game.
SHAME ON HIM!

I'd be interested to know whether clubs are expected by the National League to remain politically neutral. If so, expect some censure to come their way.
