On the road again this weekend as we head down to Hampshire to face mid-table Eastleigh. Our record at the Silverlake is poor where we haven’t won in over a decade - time to put that right tomorrow!
Looking forward to this one and a likely debut for recent signing James Dobson as well as a couple of others returning meaning we should have a far stronger looking squad than last weekend. Indeed last night it was announced Brett Williams was staying with us until the end of the season and Bairdy confirmed Toure should be fit for Saturday.
Here’s hoping for another 3 points and maybe a couple of slip-ups for sides above us.

Bit late with this one Eastleigh. Eugh. Horrible place with horrible fans and as you rightly said a horrible record too. I'm sure someone can add to this but I can only recall 2 games there out of 9 or 10 which we didn't lose. One was an FA Trophy game which we drew and another was in 2007 where I believe we won 2-1 and Ross Montague scored possibly his only goal for us. That of course was only 1 of 5 games we won that season. So we seem only to win there when we get relegated so far, but as was the case with Ebbsfleet at the tail end of last season, previous means nothing. I'd love to break that poor record this weekend. We may not of course start the game in 6th as Harrogate play Hartlepool on BT Sport at lunchtime. If the former fail to win, we will still be in a play off spot come 5pm Saturday. Gateshead have the slightly more tricky task of travelling up to in form Salford however.

I remember going to watch Eastleigh in the early 90s when they were plodding along in the lower reaches of the Wessex League. The ground was called Ten Acres then and it was a quaint, open little set-up, full of character. They had a very ancient wooden stand. Nice creamy coffees were served from the old tea hut. The people were friendly back then. My last visit was in 2003, when the club were on the cusp of the first of many promotions. The ground was still called Ten Acres. The old wooden stand was still there. But things seemed a bit different somehow. I haven’t been back since.

Eastleigh and Aldershot are both nearer to my house than Sutton so I have always gone to our matches at both grounds, but rarely seen a Sutton win. I am hoping my absence from this match at Ascot races brings both U's and me a change of fortune - and an investment on "Those days are gone" in the 2.25 proves prophetic. Up the U's.

Amberchoc, the manager at Eastleigh then would have been a certain Mr Doswell.

Amberchoc, the manager at Eastleigh then would have been a certain Mr Doswell. ....…which has prompted me to fish out my old Eastleigh programmes!
The only one that shows Dos in charge was from January 2003. My previous Eastleigh programme from 2001 indicates the manager to have been a Trevor Parker. It clearly didn’t take Dos long to start getting results. The league table in 2001 shows Eastleigh in 11th, whereas in 2003 they were clear at the top by seven points. Curiously though, there’s no manager’s contribution in the programme. Might that suggest that he didn’t have the same affinity with the fans as he does here?!
I would imagine some of the names will mean quite a bit to Dos. Derik Brooks for instance, Eastleigh's founder, who passed away last year.

Couple of other interesting names there. David Hughes as assistant (who of course was awesome for us) and our current scout Steve Beck!

My first visit to Eastleigh tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing if it's as ghastly as everyone says. Wouldn't mind seeing a Sutton win too as we've been so short of them there over the years.

I don't consider the ground ghastly. In fact for segregated away supporters its very good. I think the ghastly relates to some of their travelling fans who have let themselves down in the past. Before we were segregated there we use to mix freely without any problems as far as i can recall.

I don't think the ground is ghastly either. The Previous Chairman may have spent a lot of money on players and changed the manager 3 or 4 times a season but he also put money into the ground as well. I've been quite impressed by the facilities there. It's just a small group of their fans that have spoiled it before.

The last two seasons we have played very well there but not come away with our just rewards. Two seasons ago they had a goalie making his debut and he made 5 or 6 amazing saves including a penalty.

Lost 3-2, a continuation of our woeful record at the Silverlake. James Dobson made his Sutton debut on the left wing. Slow start from us, and after half an hour we could easily have been further behind than 1-0, their opener a scrambled effort that followed a corner. Persistence from Toure led to his first Sutton goal as he got the better of the keeper then the covering defender to roll home.
We started the second half more positively, but a break down our left saw Eastleigh regain the lead from close range. A great ball in from Harry enabled Brett W to head in the second equaliser. After that it was anybody's game, but a run though the middle saw Williamson beat Worner for the winner.
We slip a place to 7th.

We looked quite vulnerable at the back today and never really created enough up front to deserve to win. At 2-2 i thought we had got the draw which would probably have been a fair result but it wasn't to be. Hope Craig Eastmonds injury isn't serious.
