We head into the final two months of the season in a bit of a rut, with no wins or goals in our last three games. We've got 56 points, and probably need 75 to finish in the play-offs. With twelve games remaining, five wins and four draws (19 points) looks about the minimum required.
Six of those twelve games are at home. Four are against sides in the top third of the table, six against sides in the bottom third. That would seem to be to our advantage, though it comes with the caveat that we tend to perform better against the stronger teams. The league table also needs to be read alongside the form table; we play Salford (6th) and Maidenhead (16th) away in consecutive matches in early March - but Salford are 21st in the six-match form table and have lost their last three games while Maidenhead are 4th and have won their last three.
Trying to predict where we'll pick up points is something of a fraught exercise. But one could look at the four home games in March (Hartlepool, Braintree, Gateshead, Havant & W) and think that nine or ten points from those plus three or four on the road (Salford, Maidenhead, Chesterfield) is a challenging but realistic target, setting us up pretty well for the final five games in April.

Why not throw caution to the wind and adopt an all out attacking policy for these last dozen games, what's the worst that can happen ? We might even get a few goals !

I think that the Barnet game was really exciting and eventful despite or maybe because of the fact that we only had 2 recognised defenders in the back 4.
However with all of the action in the transfer market over the last month or so regarding strikers it's a bit alarming that we're not getting the goals.

And forget the obsession with the play offs................... What is there to play for then, Billy ? Why will i bother spending money travelling to Salford, Chesterfield & Wrexham ? This is not like the days of the old Isthmian League when there was no promotion or relegation.

We can still get a possible 92 points.

Its not the 1950's Billy, modern football just does not work that way. At times we've played more like a 4-2-4 and just end up losing the midfield battle. Last Tuesday we had two wingers at FB, the result? 0-0, albeit a fairly entertaining one. Attacking formations really do not equate to attacking displays and loads of goals in today's game. The very top teams such as Man C, Barca, Real, Liverpool etc can occasionally produce breathtaking attacking displays because they have the very best technical players, coaches and methods. However, pro and top semi pro football in general is so tactically astute, with teams so well organised (how hard were Slough to break down?) that more often than not teams cancel each other out, with games decided by the odd goal. Take yesterday's top games as a case in point. Two utterly dismal snooze-fests, not unusual at the top level and rife at our level, where lets face it, we're lucky to see more than a handful of high scoring games in a season nowadays. Flair players and attacking mindsets just dont produce results at Conf level, its all about turgid, organised, physical football and likely to be decided by an odd goal. I do understand your general point and I cannot disagree with your sentiment that Sutton are not particularly enjoyable to watch, but that goes for the vast majority of teams. Looking at the Conf table on the basis of Goals scored/conceded only Harrogate and Havant have been exciting to watch this season, and one of those may well be relegated, with the other touch and go for a play off place. I can tolerate watching Sutton games because they are my team but if it was on TV and I wasnt a Sutton fan I would turn it over, and I simply do not have the patience to watch 90 mins of other football anymore, for exactly the reasons I have just stated. Its on the whole a turgid affair.
