Play offs? We've got to be honest and accept that being in the play offs at the end of the season causes a massive (potential) financial headache for the club. At present, probably best to bob around just below the play off places. Negative? No, not until Bruce and Dos are ready to commit to promotion - looking forward to the forth coming meeting to see if that is on the agenda!

I thought Barrow did the double recently.
We predicted the outcome (Frakey first to be fair) at least ten mins before they scored and were even more convinced when Easty was sent off. As Andy K pointed out, it’s what we do against Maidenhead so no real surprise.
Forget the playoffs and hopefully concentrate on a performance or two with some goals. KBB

Must be nice for maidenhead to look forward to 6 guaranteed points each season! Anyone know who to and when we last lost home and away two seasons on the bounce?
Onto Braintree, who got thumped and are basically down. We all know what we've come to expect from Tuesday home games against bottom sides, if that doesn't change its definitely over for the play offs after the way results went today. Probably need 6 or 7 wins from 9. If we don't win on Tuesday I really think we should put 2 or 3 of the youth in the side for the remainder. In fact we should do it starting on tue.

Give up on the play offs and try something different I say. What we are doing at the moment clearly is not working.

As others have mentioned, it was a almost a nailed on 1-0 defeat with 40 mins left to go. I said to my Son we will need to score 2 to win the match. Too many so nearly's for us it gets pretty predictable, as does the break away goal for the opposition.
The question for the management is why? I am no manager so who I am I to say I have the answers, I don't. I tend to fall back on stats as they normally give a good idea of whats happening. We are not offering any real aerial threat from normal play. We don't seem to get wide and cross the ball. Our forwards are mostly getting half chances, and the few good openings we get we tend to miss, just wide, cleared off the line, great save etc. Defensively I think we are right up there, but there is only so long before the oppos get their opportunities at this level.
I am not sure if the problems don't stem from our midfield, taking wrong options, not being quick enough to spot opportunities, and play the right ball to the forwards?
I don't know, but I am not giving up on the playoffs yet, we are better than Eastleigh and Gateshead, but just need to shake it up a bit, maybe get Roarie to let fly some 25 - 30 yarders..

Yes, another prosaic performance from Sutton, but Maidenhead weren't a lot better than us. They won because, in the closing stages, we went to three at the back, pushed forward for a goal, and got caught on the break. It's a risk you take by trying to win a game. We could have seen the match out to a 0-0, but chose to go for the three points. This sort of gamble has paid off in the past but today it didn't.
That said, we played for over half an hour with a man advantage after the home side's striker Mike Fondop-Talom (a scorer against us at Halifax last April) was sent off. There was then pressure from us but we were unable to break down the Maidenhead defence. Craig Eastmond's red card (upgraded from a yellow on a lino's advice) evened the numbers up before the decisive strike.
We've grabbed arguably undeserved stoppage-time winners against Halifax and Ebbsfleet this season, so perhaps we were due this. And yes, for the record, Maidenhead are the second side (after Barrow) to do the double over us this season, each match ending 1-0 and settled by a very late goal.

I’ve lost the spring in my step. I’ll be there on Tuesday of course but it’ll take me 20 mins instead of my usual 15 minute walk to the ground. Today was, if I’m being polite, very ordinary.
6 points next week please chaps.

One more thing, I think the team needs a lift from us supporters on Tuesday, We should really get behind them and give some atmosphere, lets get that win...

No wins in six now, and only two goals scored, leaves us second-bottom of the form table. Take nothing for granted, but if we can't now muster a win at home against the side bottom of the league table then then the season really has gone off the rails. Still, drifting to a mid-table finish wouldn't exactly be the end of the world.

Losing at Maidenhead shocker! Plus points. Defence were great today until Bailey was subbed and went 3 at the back. And it was a better effort than last season. I'm not going to faint with shock that Maidenhead are the first side to do the double over us this season. I think I'm going to refrain from any others comments for the time being as I expect there will be a barrage of knee jerk ones from others including people who were not there coming up in the next few hoursI doubt that, but it would liven things up a bit

No interviews this week? Was it IB that received the red card on the touchline ?

That's certainly what the live commentary suggested.

On days like these I find that thinking 'Aldershot' helps a bit.

Not sure how many last minute winners Maidenhead have scored against us at York Road? Three in the last five visits? Once again the bogey struck and whoever started this thread was on a hiding to nothing. I first went there in Nov, 1985 and Sutton won 5-3 in an Isthmian Cup match. Since then 18 completed trips in all comps have yielded 4 wins and 5 draws and we have won their just once in the last 12 league visits. Going on current form it was probably a surprise that they took so long to score but they like to leave it late against us.
The slope and the strong breeze blowing down it meant, for me, this was an important toss to win and that we kicked off states the home side won that as well. U's created opportunities in that first half. Craig E hit a fine strike that Pentney pushed over, Roarie D fired narrowly wide and Gime T saw his effort blocked on the line and if it did hit a hand it was via a thigh. At the other end, Maidenhead were lively but Ross W main concern was a deflected effort that he gathered at the second attempt.
Second half, Bola's came on and caused a few problems down the right flank but Maidenhead was quick down the slope U's back line holding firm for much of the half. Gime T had U's best chance when he blazed over following a corner and then Magpies broke away once again and this time they netted with no time left.
Maidenhead fans, bench et al went crazy as if some sort of injustice had been levelled but if a player kicks an opponent in the head with a high boot that is endangering said opponent and that is a red card accidental or not. Not sure what Easty did after he was fouled but the ref seemed to have as good as view as the lino who, under immense pressure from the howling home crowd behind him added his tuppence worth and the original yellow was rescinded for a red. Be interesting to see both incidents as from behind the goal you don't always get the best view.
As for Mr Allison, he was jocular with a group of U's fans before and he didn't go into penalty mode, although Dean B was hauled down early on from a set piece. There was plenty of other holding too with Massey giving a two hand shove on a U's defender as they grappled waiting for a home team delivery. The ref, must have held up play on four or five occasions to give out what I see as pointless lectures. Do it once to both defences and after that give what you see. But then, this guy, as I have said before, looks to be in a daze at times, oblivious to what is going on around him and he missed obvious stuff to both sides and probably should have booked a couple more too.
The NLP report (I assume written from a home team perspective) gave him 4. He was bad but I have seen worse this season and in the final analysis he din't effect the outcome of the match so that is harsh. But then it seemed the whole of Maidenhead were weeping over what was their 8th NL red card of the season (perhaps they should be looking closer to home?) so that mark of 4 is probably not that surprising.
No idea what Bairdy did but it's ok for Devonshire to encroach onto the pitch demanding Easty's dismissal is it? Love to know what skip said to him after the final whistle.
The lads are having a tough time at the moment and the obvious problem is scoring goals - five blanks in the last six matches. The play-offs look increasingly difficult but it is not over yet although winning on Tuesday is a must for that ambition. Braintree look gone and that may help them relax; they won't lie down that's for sure.

No interviews this week? Was it IB that received the red card on the touchline ? Just to confirm that there is no interview this week due to time constraints yesterday, we will catch up with Dos on Tuesday evening.
