Like it or not this is a must win match for both teams. If Sutton hope to stay in the play off chase or Braintree hope to not get cut adrift at the bottom.
Sutton's confidence can't be great at the moment so let's hope they can get an early goal to steady the nerves.
No Craig and Dale didn't sound too confident he would be fit to play when i spoke to him on Saturday.

Braintree are doomed Delboy, 14 points adrift of safety with 9 to play - they’re just waiting for the inevitable R by their name in the table. Surely anything less than a win is unthinkable this evening..though saying that Braintree did the double over us two seasons ago 🙄. In our current circumstances I’d take a scrappy 1-0 with the winner coming off Toure’s backside!

Whatever the result tonight, we'll stay in 9th. Eastleigh in 8th, 4 points above us, host Maidstone which more likely than not will be a home win. Gateshead in 7th however have a tricky trip to the midlands. Ebbsfleet, currently 5 points behind us host Maidenhead.

Like us, Braintree have been struggling for goals lately. (Their young striker Callum Morton is out for the season with an ACL injury.) But defensively they've been a lot weaker (ten goals conceded in the last three games, and their overall defensive record is the worst in the division). So it needs to be all-out attack this evening! If we can take a 2-0 lead, I can't see them mounting the sort of comeback that Hartlepool managed ten days ago.

Aside from what they did to us, on Saturday they were 2-0 down to Dover, and came back to win the game 3-2!

I saved the petrol and admission cost on Saturday when a VNL linesman told me in advance Sam was the ref. 2 other names come to my mind when Allison is going to be in charge, Elleray and Terry. The accounts and highlights seem to agree his performance was central to events - which should not be the case for any ref. However, considering the highlights were Maidenhead's feed, Sutton seemed to play a lot better than many posters who were there have reported.
Foul weather conditions and the Sky cameras(?) may be expected tonight so the crowd may well be our lowest of the season. Hopefully those braving the elements will be rewarded with a handsome win. It is overdue!

According to the Met Office the rain will have stopped by kick-off, so it shouldn't be too bad for the spectators. It might be a little blowy though, making it a bit tricky for the players. Keep the ball on the deck, I say.

Not often I walk out before the end of a game but this evenings performance was absolutely shocking. We have some extremely talented players who strangely lacked energy, ideas, ambition or competitive spirit. And this against a side who were on a worse run than us and who had several key players missing. On tonight's showing we are lucky that we amassed enough points before Christmas to stay in this league. Braintree were the better side by a country mile tonight. I really struggle to understand our tactics at the moment. Maybe there aren't any?

A month ago we were 1st in the 10 game form guide, we are now 21st.
Lets shelve this 433 formation, it's not working, we aren't creative enough, we have no width and the constant long balls to no one that can hold the ball up is awful to watch. A night to forget for the fans but one I hope teaches some lessons rather than being swept under the carpet, this wasn't out of the blue and didn't take any of us by surprise.

I wish i had walked out at half time ! Dreadful formation for the players we have and our pressing game has disappeared.
I lost count of the times their goalkeeper had to save a shot. Was it one or two ?

Even allowing for the team's recent poor form, I don't think any of us saw that coming. Braintree played with the freedom that sometimes comes to a relegation-bound club when the pressure of trying to stay up is replaced by acceptance of the inevitable. Before they took the lead we'd relied on Ross Worner to keep us in the game, including a penalty save at the end of the first half. Their first two goals were decent finishes but looked avoidable, the third was a counter-attack from one of our corners.
I know we were missing Eastmond, but that shouldn't be an excuse. The entire outfield ten were short of inspiration this evening, though the second-half introduction of Ayunga and Kearney injected a bit more life into our attacks.
We're now six points adrift of seventh-placed Harrogate, who have two games in hand. So, even if we can magic up some form in the final eight matches, the play-offs look a tall order. Staying in the top half of the table may have become the main objective.

Oh dear, that was disappointing. I'm afraid that watching our team for most of this season has been hard work, with leaden performances and little that has passed as good football. I am more aware that we compete against full-timers and clubs with bigger budgets, but to be out-thought and out-competed by the rock bottom team was very poor indeed. Our over-hit and under-hit passes, speculative flick-ons and hoofs upfield have become all too familiar.
I don't mind losing when we have had a good go and tried to play good football, but at the moment I'm leaving the games fed-up, unfulfilled and certainly not entertained. Sorry gang...

This was not a bad day at the office - this was a watershed. I predict now that at least 10 of the men playing or coaching tonight will not be in place at the start of next season. The worst team in the league came to GGL tonight and passed the baton to us.
Braintree's tactics were simple. Draw Sutton forward because U's selection was devoid of anybody who could shoot hard enough or accurately enough to score. The risk then was that Sutton might outhead them. In our box we did, but in their box we didn't. Then Braintree's plan was to hit Sutton on the counter. Collins and Beckwith were exposed - having gone forward and been no help to the attack at dead balls or corners - and were at least two yards in thirty slower than four of the Braintree side. Thus U's were depending on Aswad making up the yards, and he was often the most out of position after helping the attack, or Nicky Bailey gettting in a tackle - he made several but he cannot cover the width of the pitch. Two goals from breakaways including one a lesson in how to hit a first time volley, and one from losing the ball in midfield trying to beat a man - without cover.
It wasn't just lack of confidence, it was a lack of football brains.
