www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47627409Ian Baird will manage Sutton United for the rest of the season as boss Paul Doswell takes a temporary break from the role for personal reasons. The U's are ninth in the National League, four points off the play-offs with seven games of the campaign left. "I've been putting everything in to the job here for 11 years and I do need to take a break now," Doswell, 52, said. "I'm looking forward to being back in early July refreshed and looking forward to the new season." He added: "Ian and I have been together here for five years and he has been a huge part of the success we've had, so I'm sure he and the rest of the team will do a great job." Former striker Baird, 54, played for clubs including Leeds, Middlesbrough, Bristol City and Brighton before moving into coaching.

Taking aside the personal reasons, and I’m certain we all wish Dos well, this is an opportune time to refresh the batteries and take a decent break. A refreshed Dos coming into the next season can only be a good thing. After 11 years it is long overdue!

Some things are more important than football and this is absolutely one of them. Hope he's able to enjoy his break and come back fresh and excited for the new season. All the best Dos.

But who will lead us out at Wembley in the play off final ? Dos said last night if that happened he would "dust off his suit" and be there.
Whereas Bruce, I suspect, would be in crisis talks with the Sutton council about leasing the Rec to transfer the 3G pitch in there to maintain the income stream in the event of victory. Dos explained that the £1m gift for joining league 2 would go immediately on £600k grass-pitch-laying and £350k loss of revenue from the 3G.

1st of all, good luck and thanks Dos. Nothing to discuss re his decision to have a break. I wonder if Ian Baird has been left with a free reign with the squad. "It's yours now pal, do what ya like"! Ideal moment to take over, relegation banished for another year and playoffs looking unlikely. Be interesting to see what if any differences we see style or player wise. I'm looking forward to the Ian Baird system, or IBS as I'm calling it. 😖

After giving the 4th official at Maidenhead an accurate assessment of Mr Allison's talent for refereeing, Ian will have a game or two watching from higher up.

To be fair, most of us look down on the referees at this level...
