I'm sure that when BT chose this match to televise they thought that Chesterfield would be scrapping against relegation and we would be in the thick of the play offs. What a difference a month makes.
However you have to thank them for allowing us to see a game many of wouldn't get to watch and great admiration for those travelling up there Saturday morning.
Not sure what to expect match wise but hoping we can still be in contention for a play off spot although relying on others to lose.

Pumped by an extremely average Chesterfield side. Never would have happened with the skip in the side. Overall tidy enough 1st half without a cutting edge. 2nd goal killed the game. Would like us to have a closer look at Ayunga up front with Kearney in these last few games. Let’s see if he can be successful at this level. Kearney looks sharp, good at protecting the ball. Would use those 2 plus Toure as needed upfront.

Yeah 6 games to go so let’s have Jonah play up front through the middle for the rest of the season. I’d be disappointed to see Brett Williams start another game, he’s out of contract and out of form too.

Looked Ok n the first half and thought we were still in the game. Second half we struggled, Yes a makeshift back 4 again. I thought Barden payed well. Kearney was a threat in the first half but did not see the ball in the second. So many times we get into the box but fail to get a shot away preferring to pass and lose posession.

Like the curate's egg Sutton were good in the middle, but bad at both ends. You can't really miss Tom Denton - probably the tallest player in the National League. Collins knows enough to be at his shoulder nudging him when Denton attempts to head goalwards. Today's erzatz U's defence didn't, and allowed Tom two goals. The first a totally free header. Aswad was nearest - and yet nowhere near him. For the second header Denton was allowed to pick his own marker, which turned out to be Jobson - no contest.
You can see why Chesterfield are that far down, they did not contest the midfield, and against more effective opposition would often be in trouble. In the first half Sutton created several chances - but oh - the shooting! Why does every Sutton player aim to score off the post or bar, and so miss. With their level of accuracy if they took aim at the keeper's chest they would probably knock it in the corner of the goal.
Chesterfield's second goal was off-side, but Aswad stood off the forward as he swivelled and could not block the cross shot. Aswad isn't a central defender so not used to the role, he had to deputise for JC because today we had only Deano fit. It was a case of all indians no chiefs today. Collins, Bailey, Eastmond do more than their own tasks - they organise their section of the team.
In his departing message Dos said he had in mind to recruit an old-fashioned back-to-goal centre-forward who could hold the ball up and bring his colleagues into play. We haven't had one since Dundo left. That type of player usually organises all the attackers, but it seems none of our current strikers can do that.

Thomas played left back. He was nowhere near the 1st goal in the middle (it was Bennett who was ball watching a bit) but didn’t get that close to the right sided player crossing it in for it.

Wondering why Williams starts in front of Tourre or Ayunga. Either he is off form or past his best !
Taking our left back off and putting a winger there wasn't the greatest substitution i've seen and the third goal came soon straight from that area.
Before the first two goals we had dominated with a lot of possession. Both came against the run of play. Our shooting was wayward but we were playing with a handicap up front !

Highlight of the day was the somewhat surreal playing of Janie Jones by the Clash just before kick off. At best bang average on the pitch after that, at worst, clueless defending down the left flank. No one took charge of that side unlike Tom B on the right side who, whilst out of position, put a shift in. Mr Barden in midfield put himself about until his legs went....the rest 4/10 to be generous

At the moment we are a guard dog with no teeth and with a weak under belly. Defence is simple, we are missing to many players, and others forced to play out off position, no ones fault, and will be fixed when players return.
Missing JC, Bailey, Eastmond, Davis, and Wright is just too big a hole to fill.
Where excuses stop are in front of goal, JC and Eastmond are top scorers, with just 5 goals from our front men in 15 matches going back to Jan 1st. That is why we are not in the playoffs.

We played some neat, passing football in the first half, on what was a very good surface, Harry involved in most of our better moves, with Barden and Dobson also influential. But, as others have said, we lacked a cutting edge, our final ball either off-target or comfortably dealt with by the home keeper.
None of the three Chesterfield goals would have won many marks for elegance, and at least one should have been disallowed for offside, but it's finding the net that counts. At half-time we were only 1-0 down and still very much in the game. But the two strikes early in the second half killed off the contest, and there was barely a hint of the sort of comeback we managed against Gateshead a week earlier.
There must be a feeling that, once again, the team didn't do itself justice in front of the live TV cameras. In mitigation, the absence of Collins, Davis, Eastmond and Bailey meant we lacked the experience and nous to disrupt our opponents' limited attacking threat. But one Chesterfield fan I spoke to afterwards said that worse teams than Sutton had won at the Proact Stadium this season. There's still the nucleus of an effective side there.
With Ebbsfleet winning yesterday and overtaking us, we're now down to tenth in the table.

Got there early yesterday. Great stadium and great set of fans too. To compare their structure and set up with ours, and their budget for a playing squad of over 30, puts things in perspective really. For us to be higher up the division than they are, both in mid table now, isn't a bad place.
You would think if they were to utilise their budget on a smaller number of quality players, with the backing of a crowd double the likes we get, they should be heading back into the football league, but football is a funny old game as the saying goes.
Looking forward to returning next year.

Looking forward to returning next year. I'd agree with pretty much everything you've said there and I'd fully expect Chesterfield to "do an Orient" next season. It's definitely one of the better new stadiums. I went there with Gillingham a few years ago. They won the L2 title by beating us and in so doing, denied us a play off spot. But their fans applauded us out of the ground. Fair play to them for that. Certainly not the reaction we got at Forest and Leeds when we were relegated at both of those venues, or Stoke when we stayed up on the final day of the 03/04 season.

I'm wondering out loud the psychological, maybe subliminal, effect the absence of Dos on players? The poor man needs the break, but it must have seemed strange without him, even given the admirable stand-in that is Bairdy. Others have pointed out a defence that is missing Captain Marvel, but the current attack has all the penetration of a butter knife. Kearney is learning his trade, but might have done better with shots from distance. Williams and Toure, in particular, are not at the races.

Its not that unusual for Bairdy to take the helm as Dos takes various family holidays.
