medyel, judging by your user name, is it fair to conclude there are at least two of us with a soft spot for the Us in the Medway Towns area of the Garden of England?
Lived there for 20 odd years (including a spell as Finance Director at GFC) but now have moved downstream of the River Medway to Kings Hill...still reasonably close to said river.,,with a brief break in between living in Chesterfield and I was at that 3-1 game with the Gills in 2011: Chessie had a great team to watch in those days led by Gills-slayer Jack Lester...far better than the 2019 crop

I believe he's at Carshalton these days!

I'm wondering out loud the psychological, maybe subliminal, effect the absence of Dos on players? The poor man needs the break, but it must have seemed strange without him, even given the admirable stand-in that is Bairdy. Others have pointed out a defence that is missing Captain Marvel, but the current attack has all the penetration of a butter knife. Kearney is learning his trade, but might have done better with shots from distance. Williams and Toure, in particular, are not at the races. I dont think this would have had a major bearing....As has been pointed out we are a part time team in a f/t league, we have fewer players in our squad meaning less options to rotate as the season wears on, we are at the back end of a long campaign, (46 games per season is just too many to my mind) and if someone strips out your team's spine and primary organisers (Collins, Bailey, Eastmond, Davis, Wright) going away from home to places like Chesterfield is a tough ask. If we had got our nose in front yesterday then who knows, maybe the outcome would have been different....hey ho

I think we simply caught Chesterfield at the wrong time. They've been enjoying a revival for the last few games. Had we played them a couple of months ago it may well have been a different story but hey-ho, onwards and upwards

Apparently, I came over on BT Sport yesterday afternoon. I could just imagine Delboy sitting at home in front of the box stroking his lucky rabbit's foot, hoping in hope his duck would finally be ended and then the flat tones of yours truly break his concentration. An ear bashing for the ages.
It might not have happened so early had I not been given an inaccurate assessment of their first goal (the scorer not being offside) as to be fair I though the ref had a decent game until late on when he showed three quick yellow cards for what looked innocuous challenges in a match that he had let flow upsetting the home fans (but then we were north of the m25 so par for the course). Some CFC fan accused U's of being over physical and the ref lenient. Cos Denton wasn't shoving his arse in when contesting aerial balls and Fortune didn't put himself about a bit when he came on? Course not.
Yesterday was the case of the haves hosting the have nots and the haves duly triumphed even though they were outplayed in the first half only to lead through a Denton header that looked like he actually mis-headed it but got lucky. That said he was totally unmarked in the middle when the cross came over and any decent contact would have probably led to a goal anyway. For U's Roarie D probably had our only effort from inside the box; that was deflected over while young Dylan hit two good strikes from just outside the second of which was just off target. For all U's midfield superiority though they rarely got around the back of a well organised defence.
Second half that early goal killed us; apparently it may have been offside but Boden's finish was pretty decent and then Denton with probably about 6 inches in height over his marker couldn't miss for the third, the disappointing aspect of that being no one near enough to close down the cross.
Gime T came on and added a bit of spark but U's only effort on target coming from Roarie D that Jalal collected with reasonable comfort.
When you look at the set up at The Proact and the potential CFC has you have to wonder where it all went wrong and the very fact we're currently above them in the table speaks volumes for how well SUFC competes at this level against clubs with the comparative vast resources such as The Spireites and what a poor season they have had. Just Sutton's fortune to visit them rejuvenated under Sheridan and U's missing so many key players.
Well done to the 151 away fans for making the trip. The view was good, the stewards unobtrusive and the autograph hunters outside after the match, diligent. Fair play to the U's players for obliging when many others may have been less so after losing. One thing the FA Cup run of two years ago appears to have done is made Jamie C and Roarie D instantly recognisable.
One other observation, Midland offers a far better service than Virgin. Friendlier staff and superior Saturday offerings.
H&W next up and then the Four Decades bash after; certainly look forward to that.

You can meet any club at anytime, if you only get 1 shot on target all match you won't win, good time or bad time.

My wife was also yelling 'offside' at the TV about the player who ran into the net for their first goal. Not so for 2 reasons: he did not play the ball, and he is behind Denton and the ball when Denton heads it - so was onside. Boden was off-side for their second goal and by enough (half a body-width) for a linesman at this level to have noticed. No complaints about the margin of victory though.

I didn't see the game at all but we keep saying about the fact that we are part time with a small squad. However we have signed several forwards or midfielders. What we need is a back up loan defender such as Terrell Thomas. That's where we're lacking at the moment. Why can't we borrow someone?

According to FootballWebPages, this match had the NL season's lowest attendance of er, 1. Maybe we all went to an entirely different match?
