The data was released by the FA themselves last week: www.thefa.com/news/2019/apr/04/intermediary-fees-and-transactions-04041927 non-league clubs paid agents between 1st February 2018 and 31st January 2019 (essentially covering this season, although it's not as straightforward as that at this level because we're not bound by the transfer windows that are in place in the PL and EFL). NATIONAL LEAGUE Salford City £76,338 Chesterfield £72,943 Leyton Orient £30,067 Wrexham £26,468 Eastleigh £19,462 Hartlepool United £18,369 Barnet £16,100 Barrow £14,563 Fylde £10,820 Harrogate Town £9,479 Halifax Town £9,312 Ebbsfleet United £9,130 Sutton United £7,228Solihull Moors £5,660 Dagenham & Redbridge £3,190 Havant & Waterlooville £1,344 So that means 8 teams didn't pay an agent at any stage during the period: Gateshead, Bromley, Maidenhead, Boreham Wood, Dover, Aldershot, Braintree, Maidstone - all bar Gateshead are in the bottom half of the table, which seems rather illustrative; if you want to succeed, using agents is the cost of doing business. NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH/SOUTH York City £13,455 Torquay United £10,700 Woking £8,858 Guiseley £8,820 Hereford £1,500 Southport £1,500 Stockport County £900 Alfreton Town £500 Boston United £500 South Shields £500 NORTHERN PREMIER Frickley Athletic £900 Our £7,228 was paid out for just two signings - Gimé Touré and James Dobson.

It's a terrible indictment of football these days.

Glad, but not surprised, to see that we are near the bottom of the list.
The worst part of these revelations, when it comes to the Premier League at least, is that often one agent is working for both the club and the prospective signing. How does that work? Presumably the club wants the cheapest contract and the player wants to get as much money as possible. And there's no conflict of interest there? I've no idea why clubs which employ their own lawyers and negotiators need to pay an agent as well. Surely that should be up to the player and should come out of the player's pocket?

Are we to believe from the above figures that Billericay Town F.C. haven't paid a penny in agents' fees this season? If so, then consider me a sceptic.

Are we to believe from the above figures that Billericay Town F.C. haven't paid a penny in agents' fees this season? If so, then consider me a sceptic. Apparently so. All registrations and intermediaries have to go through the FA's systems (with payments to agents being routed through them too), so if there was anything dodgy going on, they'd be in a whole heap of trouble. Not really the sort of attention that even someone like Tamplin looks for...
