I remember attending as an 11 year old with my older brother. My local team at Wembley and Micky Mellows scores after 5 mins. Could it get any better? Sadly not. Whatever happened to North Shields?

North Shields currently in the Northern League Div 1. They completed a Wembley double by winning the FA Vase in 2015.

I was there! I remember it as a great day out with schoolfriends and neighbours,in spite of the disappointing result. You could still pay at the turnstile for lots of games in those days even for England matches. My previous visit was in 1968 for Manchester United v Benfica, ten bob for the ticket (50p)
It was even worth dragging myself away from non stop repeated plays of Bob Dylan's ninth studio album Nashville Skyline which had been released a few days before the Sutton final.
This was my fourth season as a regular at GGL.I have no way of checking but of the eleven who played in the final i'd say about six of them played in virtually every game i watched over those four years.
I also had the privelege of being coached by Pritchard and (mainly) Ted Powell when i played for Surrey schoolboys and Dario Gradi when i played for Surrey in the FA County Youth Cup and several other games,he was the best manager i ever played for by a country mile.
Things were a lot different 50 years ago.Not better,not worse,just different.
