If you look back a couple of pages the fact we're short in a lot of areas, and particularly defence, has been covered. I was just responding to the point that it was considered we had enough in forward areas. I guess on paper we do have enough forwards, let's hope a couple of them can fire! Oh it wasn't specifically a response to your post, it's more of a general thing. Even Matt Gray has identified about our "weakness in attack" but hasn't said much about the defence. We've let 3 players go who have made 70 odd appearances between them in defence (Thomas and Beckwith constantly and Bailey mostly) and whilst there were obvious issues up front for the last few months of the season, in 2019 we managed 2 clean sheets in 21 games (one of which was a 0-0!)

Yeah I think the assumption has to be there is a plan personnel wise there! At least on the plus side we have 2 stellar defenders still.

…don't recall him ever scoring for us. That's one I won't be losing any sleep over. 1 goal every 4 games on average for the Darts, so he's arguably a better fit there than with us.

He never got a chance. We paid a fee for him, sent him out on loan to get fit after his ACL injury and then we’ve released him. Should have been invited back for pre season and given a chance in my opinion

Shame this one. Unreal we didn’t have a good look at him at the back end of last season. Was highly regarded by Ebbsfleet supporters.

Started 1 league game for us and 7 times on the bench. Sent on loan with either no recall clause or we chose not to exercise it. Sounds like he didnt have a future with us well before the end of last season.

www.suttonunited.net/darren-mcqueen/ and heres the story in full. In terms of the management comment I think we've really got to get used to a polar opposite in tone to the previous regime

Dos raved about him after his cameo from the bench where he helped change the game at home to Harrogate. Then sent him for minutes and starts and never seen again, stupid.

The SUTV interviewer may have to work a bit harder this season. Usually only needed 1 question to Dos and off he went for the next half hour

And Dundo plus Dylan Kearney - or has he gone too? Much as we all love the legend that is Dundo, I wouldn't expect him to feature too heavily on the playing side of things this season. At 38 years of age a player in his position is likely to be quite limited at this level in terms of how many games he can see through. Great to have him as an option though, and I'm hugely looking forward to having him on the coaching team. Maybe they'll convert him to a centre back. Such transformations have been known before.

The SUTV interviewer may have to work a bit harder this season. Usually only needed 1 question to Dos and off he went for the next half hour The things is, Dos used to set his own questions, tell us when he wanted to be interviewed, and generally run the show. Our TV service was built around him, thats not just the bit the fans see but all the requirements for coaching and analysis etc. We know nothing else as we have never worked with anyone else. Similarly this thread, could you imagine if this was put up a year ago, we would all be hiding behind our sofas now, as AmberDos would be sure to surface and tell us all off At the end of the day Matt will be judged on his results and not his after dinner speaking, and I guess we all have to get used to that.

Yes os, you are right in that Matt will ultimately be judged on the teams results.... but...... fifth tier football is a changed beast. It is now one of live TV coverage, a dedicated press, social media and forums such as this. You cannot manage a team in the Premiership, Championship, Division One or Division Two without also buying into having to play the game with the media AND the fan base. The National League has now entered such a world. Dos was Dos and Matt is his own man, so it is difficult (if not simply unkind) to compare them, although a lack of noise coming from the dugout will only ‘put off’ some of the ‘new’ converts who bought into the Dos Circus (and that term is used positively). Having come back to the club only four seasons ago, having been a regular in the 70s and 80s, I found the Sutton United of 2015 an eye-opener. It had grown bigger and better. I genuinely felt a part of something. I was made to feel as if Dos was a mate (having only spoken to him briefly twice). If I’m being brutally honest I feel as if a lot of that feeling has been lost. It might just be me, but I bet that quite a few supporters are feeling the same. I know that results and the quality of the football should be by what Matt is solely judged by, but times have changed. It’s the all-round football experience that now counts.

My only point is the tone will be different. The implication of that is that there shouldn't be an expectation of the same level of engagement we've had in recent years. It's up to the individual on how they judge that
