I've made this point before but it's worth making again. Last season we had a management team free of charge. Obviously that no longer applies and that must have reduced the player budget. When we look at some of the players we are surprised have not been kept on, you should ask how much they were being paid. It's not just a case of who is better, it may ne a case of who we can afford. I'm guessing that players like Thomas, Toure and Ayunga (the 3 I'd like to have kept) were on full-time professional wages. All speculation of course but I would have thought Bailey was one of our higher paid players. Not sure Ayunga would at the time he came to us in his career (young and post serious injury probably grateful for the opportunity at the level we're at). As to our dip in form last year. 2 things come to my mind - we had some very poor forwards playing for us and we had a defence decimated by injury. Hopefully news of personnel to help us score and stop goals still to come :-)

I might publish last season's player stats when the last departure has gone. MG has followed the same pattern as Dos + team in the past two seasons. Players whose points-per-game average is below that for SUFC are usually moved out. The only core player still with us with a below-SUFC stat for 2018-9 is Harry. And Harry was unlucky: he was almost ever-present in 2019 when results declined but he missed several games in 2018 in which we won or drew, therefore he was probably better that his stats.
Now the lads are back training I have one wish, that they practice shooting with the outside of their striking foot. I think it is a more useful skill on 3G with its lack of bobbles than on grass. It isn't a common accomplishment at the top level, but I guess you will see Brooks, De Bruyne, Townsend, Son and Hourihane demonstrate the value in EPL.

Its called cutting your coat according to your cloth. Simple as that. I think we have let 8 players go, and so far have bought in 2, one will be on the going wage I guess and the lad from Worthing probably on a bit less with something to prove at our level. Even with a managers wage we should still be able to bring in 2-3 really decent players and still have change. So far I think Matt has got this spot on, the big question is what quality will come in next week etc?

So that gives you:
Worner Bailey / Beckwith / Aswad Mcqueen / Taylor / Dobson / Deacon Jonah / Williams / Toure
Just look at that forward line, how many goals in there per minute on the pitch?

Yes, but if I'm being really hard headed about it, the only loss that's completely lamentable is Aswad. Shame to lose Worner, too, but keeping two decent keepers was never an option. We were not a very good team in the back half of last season. No reason to keep too much of it together.

I’d say out of that lot Deacon and Bailey the hardest to replace. But I don’t disagree with the latter departing as it has clearly been getting more difficult to keep him on the pitch.

People keep banging on about how poor the forwards were last season, and indeed they were, but what can you say about the service they got? Was equally bad IMO. I'll say it for the record yet again, but Taylor was the only decent creative player at times last season, and its a big mistake letting him go. Dobson couldnt get around a dairy cow with his pace so defenders quickly worked out how to stop him, while Bola for me was one of the biggest underperfomers last season and perhaps only kept his job because he mucked in and did a good job at full back - I would have kept Taylor over him for sure and I expect a lot better from him this season. As for the oft lamented forward line Toure was too selfish to work with any of the other guys, Williams was decent Conf South but no more. Not an effin clue about Mcqueen but as others have said, didnt really get a chance. Ayunga had goals in him Im almost certain he will come good but fair enough, he got his chance and didnt take it. Didnt catch too much of Kearney but cant fault his endeavor and i look forward to seeing his progression. The big question is, will Tommy get back to fitness in time for any of the early part of the season. If not, I cant see us signing another forward player on contract with the obvious budgetary constraints, so that would mean a loan striker and there arent too many good ones of those. However, I did have a dream the other night that we signed a giant young Man U striker on loan, any players fit that bill?

I agree with Baboonfish. To be fair we often had only 10 fit first team players who had to take all roles. Still underlying that was an impression I got that Harry and Craig are too similar in style when playing in midfield, and a player who could hold the ball in mid-field and make accurate crossfield passes to swich the attack was missing.
While a Man U striker on loan remains a dream, it would not be unrealistic to get a loanee from a London EPL side. In the friendly last season v Chelsea U23 their Charlie Brown ran the show from midfield. I haven't heard of him since getting near their first team, so there would be no harm in asking about similar players.

Not a bad shout but that depends on the personnel we have behind the scenes and the relationships they have. Dos did make a habit of getting to know managers and fostering relationships with them, hence we got loan signings like Adam May etc. Its still yet to be seen if Matt or the current set up have that network to tap into although my current thinking (and I could be wrong with this) is that looking at the friendlies we have got could be an indication that we don't have anywhere near that level of network.

Bellikli has left the club confirmed by Matt Gray in his interview. Does that mean we will cancel the SCR friendly? That friendly is still going ahead. Will mainly be youth players and second choice players playing though.
