Unfortunately from a financial perspective, it can’t look too good. Aside from the parachute payments, which might cover the players wages, expect smaller gates, no tv revenue and carrying substantial debt from our time in league 2. Of course the recent share issue might have raised some new capital which could go some way towards this but I wouldn’t be surprised if belt tightening was the order of the day. One bright spot in such a dismal season is the extent to which supporters have stuck by the club with this season's average attendance a mere 42 below 2022/23. Whether there's a similar appetite for NL football remains to be seen, assuming we go down.

It is not over until it is over! Two wins and a bit of luck, that is all we need....

It is not over until it is over! Two wins and a bit of luck, that is all we need.... The players will no do doubt need to try and win our next two difficult fixtures as if they lose them and Colchester bottle it, then they will never forget it. But with Grimsby all but mathematicly safe and Colchester likely only needing 2 draws and a win from there next 4 games to make them realistically safe, even the most optimistic person would have to say we are going to need a massive turn out if result's to keep us up. Our fight back came too late IMO. Grimsby do not even have to win on Tuesday, so I fancy Colchester beating them quite easily, then they only need to win one of their next three games.

Snookers are required but Colchester still need to get points. Unfortunately, they only need 6 more, and with Grimsby (effectively safe) and Notts Co coming up next, it could all be said and done come Saturday tea time. If it's not, then with Doncaster away to follow, it could make for a very interesting final day.
Ach, it's the hope that kills you.

Obviously what Colchester 'need' is very dependant on what we get. Personally I think it unlikely that we'll get 6 points from the last two matches. I wouldn't rule out 4. I wouldn't rule out 0. But 6 seems a real stretch.
So, Colchester may need rather less than some people are calculating.

What result is better for us tomorrow night?
A Colchester win or a draw means we can still catch Grimsby, and a Grimsby win means is between us and Colchester.
Means nothing of course if we lose on Saturday.

Remember MK Dons are waiting for play offs now, and will likely be playing for fitness when we play them. Then again, this will probably be the case for Crewe against Colchester 🥴

Means nothing of course if we lose on Saturday. Grimsby win all the way. Chances of catching Grimsby are very low given their goal difference (+10 on us) and them only needing one more point to be mathematically safe. A Colchester loss keeps them only a point above Sutton and a maximum of 5 goals better off.

Won’t MK Dons also might want to rest players ahead of the play-offs?

It may turn out to be academic, but the positions of the clubs in and around the play-off places going into the final games could work in our favour.
If, as looks reasonably likely, MK Dons can't finish anywhere other than 4th (where they are now), their result against us won't be important to them. They'll know they'll have a two-legged play-off semi-final coming up within the following fortnight.
Crewe, on the other hand, may struggle to finish in a play-off place. They're currently 5th, but are in poor form, and are at risk of being overhauled by Barrow, Crawley and Doncaster. They may go into their final game at Colchester needing a draw or a win in order to finish 7th or higher.
Doncaster, on a real hot streak, are just outside the play-off places (6 points behind Crewe, with a game in hand) and may well need to get something from their game at Colchester tomorrow week if they're to nail a play-off spot.

What shred of hope I have left hangs on tonights result against Grimsby, which I think Colchester will win quite easily, but perhaps we will get lucky and see Grimsby confirm their safety with a win. Maybe Wilson will give us a a gift.

Chances of catching Grimsby are very low given their goal difference (+10 on us) Very low indeed, but 2 wins for us and 2 defeats for them could erase that advantage. Almost certainly not, and that would be clutching at straws.
