...........Under 300 game to watch the game ( I know Alton Town came with just a handfull) but where were the home crowd? Did they think the game would be a strole in the park!!!! and not bother. Lack of atmosphere...did this reflect on the players attitude to the game? Yes it was true Sutton had ample chances to win the game...but you had to say Alton stuck to their game and as the match progressed became less intimidated by Suttons FA Cup reputation. At a loss to understand why at times persist with the back four passing amongst themselves with not an Alton player in our half, and then the long hopeful ball up field to Jolly or an other to chase, in most cases over hit, end result nothing. Yesterday pitch was fine grass cut... and ready to play football on the deck, and Sutton have the players have the skill to do that...so why not!! I don't except the arguement thats its just as well, we can now concentrate on the league.!! apart from the fact £3000 just walked out of the clubs bank account. Lets hope Suttons injury problem resolves ..quickly, we need them back and hope that Jasons injury is less serious than at first though.
Good luck to Alton lets hope that they get a good draw and can add to the £5250 they have earnt so far

Our players went out today thinking they would win and most of the supporters also turned up thinking the team would win and no matter what the manager and coaching staff say to warn players, their basic thought is that "Alton are not as good as us". On relative form this season we should have beaten them comfortably but that only works if you play the way you have been playing, put in the same effort and achieve the high standard that you have previously reached. Our team will not win games unless all our players perform properly. We are not good enough as a unit to have 3 or 4 players off form (or out injured) let alone most of the team not performing well. Let's hope that we can get back to the better quality performances we have had in the league, although I expect that this result will have been as much a shock to the players as it was to the supporters. The next league game may well be one of the most important of the campaign. Confidence is a fragile thing. Good luck to Alton in the next round you deserved your win.

best thing that could have happened in my opinion. i know the cash monies will be missed, but the 4 extra games that equates to a 1st round appearance would probably have ruined any promotion chance. anyone criticising the poor performance should look at the run of games we've had plus injuries, all so early in the season. if youve played football at any level then you must know how easily a tired team can be turned over by lesser oppo. i think we will walk the league this year and this will only work in our favour, and i cant believe the level of criticism over one poor display. The cup exit could be the reason we don't win the league! The money lost could/would finace the players we now need due to the long list of injuries. The result will cripple our chance of promotion.

Holmes ~ in case you didn't notice, Lowestoft blasted their oppo today and are still in the cup. Therefore, it is probable they will reach the 3rd qual, making it a Tuesday night match ! KBB Bugger. There goes one positive then

Amazingly they are going into ever more detail on their forum re. the goal that wasn't. What a big waste of time. Some go for you some against, get over it!! Hastings1066 here....garethl..when you wrote this comment the other day I thought it might come back to bite you in the b*m....so ....touche. ...youll get over it!!!!! Seriously though we had a stinker yesterday at Bognor 2up, 2-2 at half time only to give away a 3rd in added time....how gutting was that??? guess we can both concentrate on the league now.....we'll get over it

Can't quite see the connection really but hey ho. If I was going on about the penalty we might have had I'd agree.
The result has been accepted.

I don't like the trophy. A lot of work for little reward until you get into the final stages.

Tonbridge also had an embarrassing defeat, losing 1-0 at home to Guildford City.
As both ourselves and Angels are now without a scheduled fixture on Sat 25 Sept, I wonder if our home league game against them will be brought forward to that date. It's currently due to be played on Tuesday 26 October.

Its now had 24hrs to sink in and it does not feel much better to be honest, along with losing the income and the dogma of one of our worst ever results, it calls into question the mentality of the team. A team that has serious aspirations to win the league or win anything for that matter has to have that winning mentality no matter who the opposition are. There should be no such thing as a easy match all should carry the same amount of work rate and commitment, if the oppos are not very good they will simply ship a lot of goals and keep doing so until the ref blows his final whistle. I do not agree with the idea that a team can do just enough to win a game and leave something in the locker, which is what I thought some of our players believed yesterday and I guarantee that the preparation would have been different if we were playing a league side at home in the FA Cup 1st round? The players we had on the pitch yesterday were plenty good enough to win the match, not one player in the Alton side would get in our squad.
Having said that the side has only failed half the mentality test, the second half comes on Tuesday week against Harrow Borough. It maybe early on in the season but I think we could learn a lot about the character of our team in the next 10 days and whether or not they have the desire to win week in week out (I know they have the ability) and take this league???

10 days off now to recuperate, get some people back fit and push on again.
Season starts again at home to Harrow.

If you can bear anymore, match report from "The Barber" : www.thefa.com/Leagues/TheBarber/NewsAndFeatures/2010/shock-for-sutton-130910 As an aside, I'll be keeping an eye out for Alton and wishing them all the best, as a club they were excellent on Saturday, before, during and after the match and in a subsequent email from their Chairman.

1st off, well played Alton. They came and gave everything and got what they deserved. Fair play to them.
It's been almost 48 hours now, but I'm still struggling to get over the sheer humiliation of Saturday. Absolute garbage. The only player who comes out with any real credit is Bradley, 1st off for his performance on the pitch including his amazing goal, and 2nd for being man enough to apologise in the bar afterward. Missing players shouldn't be an excuse, after all we are aiming to go up this season and thus should have strength in depth but that certainly wasn't in evidence on Saturday. However this could be a kick up the rear the players need. Harrow is massive.
IF we win the league (and it's a big if) no-one will remember Saturday......
