Forbes's goal was a perfectly placed header to the keeper's right, who slipped and spent the next five minutes checking his studs.
BWG's was lovely, he held on to the ball on the deck in the box, dragged it around away from two defenders and slotted it home like a putt.

Rarely can going top of the league have been quite so underwhelming! This was a game we were expected to win, but we made heavier weather of it than the 3-0 scoreline might suggest.
In the first half we had most of the pressure but barely tested the home keeper, with most of our goal attempts flying over the bar. Athletic's defence was being well marshalled by ex-U Tom Hughes, and they created a few presentable chances of their own on the break.
In the second half, once Dundo's effort that crashed down off the bar had been given as a goal, we relaxed and had our best spell of the match with Bradley's low shot soon finding the corner of the net. The third goal killed off the game as a contest and it then petered out as a spectacle.
Saturday's game in Kent is likely to be tougher than this evening's, but we need to be looking for three points from that one too. If we can get them, the "we are top of the league" chant should sound a bit more convincing.

3 goals, 3 points and back on top of the league. There were areas of concern in the first half but there really was only one team in it and i would have taken 3-0 before the game.
Time to be positive and really get behind the team. If we can get another three points on saturday (shame I cant make it), we can hopefully go into the K's game on the back of three wins and take some momentum into a very difficult fixture.
Nice to be back on top of the league

First man home from the game! Dundo's goal was over the line, I had the best view, standing as I was at the corner. Lino was well far and went on our shout. Deserved the win , no complaint there, but even the goalscorer in the bar said it was not a goal, only person in the ground that said it was ,was the linesman, Photos and you tube will back that up, anyway good luck for the rest of the season, nice to see 150 of you there for a mid week game as well

Thanks Waddon. Not sure about the first goal, about 50/50 from the people near me. I thought your lads fought very hard for the cause and you should be proud of them. I was standing with a neutral and he thought with a bit more composure you could have scored, specially the couple of chances in the first half. Mind you if we'd taken ours...........
Good to see Tom Hughes playing at this level again.
Vern, standing where the lino should have been??

If i am honest, i could not say exactly whether the first goal was over the line or not but a decision going our way from an official is most welcome and a refreshing change after some of the referees decisions against us lately.
I also thought we should have had a penalty shortly after but ref deemed it outside of the box. It looked inside to me.
Top marks to Croydon Fans for the "were gonna win one day" song. As long as it is not in the home game against Croydon, I hope they get it sometime (against Lowestoft or K's would be nice)

We did make hard work of it and if Croydon could finish they may have scored twice before we opened our account. I had a better angle then the lino for the goal and my instincts told me no but my wife and someone else what was level said it did Anyway its the first in 16 efforts this season which have hit the woodwork not to bounce to safety although it did try Bradley's goal was class and the 3rd was icing on the cake and killed the game off totally with 10 mins to play. We are top by 3pts with 2 important games to come, we can ask no more. I agree with Andy K MOTM for me was KES, his crossing is getting better each time he plays.

Well.....an interesting night to say the least. I don't want to be too harsh on Croydon, because I'm sure they are happy with just having a team at the moment, but they have been the weakest side I've seen the league this season. Some of their finishing was the poorest I think i've seen in an Sutton opponent in years. But like I said, 2 months ago we were looking at them going out of existence and its a sterling effort they are doing.
First half we were quite poor. Our finishing wasnt there and we were not bossing the game enough. The tackle on Dundas was more of a red card than Dundo's sending off at Lowestoft.
The second half we took our chances better. I was about 6 yards from the goal to its left, and from where I saw (almost in line) it WAS over, albeit only just - literally an inch over. If it was a 1-0 win and that was the final score, I could sympathise, but we scored two more very good goals from BWG and Forbes.
Did we deserve it? Yes. Did we deserve a 3-0, possibly over 90 mins no, but in the 2nd half yes. Will we get crucified by other stronger teams if we play like we did in the first half - Yes.
Man of the Match - apart from the default Scriven choice (he really has been brilliant all season), tonights award from me goes to Kes. Really kept it together, and a good strong captains performance in the 2nd half. Honourable mention for Dundo too, who showed what we've missed in the last few weeks.
I now expect a win at Maidstone on Saturday. As AA said it will be tougher, but like I said earlier, there is no reason why we can't win.

I didn't see it actually hit the ground but did observe that it travelled vertically downwards after coming off the bar. With both posts leaning backwards by a 15% there is no doubt in my mind that it had to be over. The assistant lineman was about 10 yards back, and in exactly the right position for that stage of play. Had he been on the goal line my flab would have been agarsted.
