A break from league action against one of the RPL's in form teams. When we played them earlier in the year, it was a close game, and they looked decent. By their recent form they still do, and I think its going to be a tough game. I think they could actually be serious contenders for the title along with Lowestoft (and yes I'll say it again, more serious than the K's will be!)
We don't really want to take this to a replay, as their place is almost as much a fortress as ours is - the only team to win there in the Leauge this season was Lowestoft. I'm sure Dos is thinking the same, so hopefully we'll be attacking from the off!
I remember saying after the game "I'm glad we don't have to play them again till the last day of the season". Ooops

I agree we don't want a replay, especially as our league match at Harrow would then be postponed.
If the score's level with ten minutes to go I'd be happy for us to throw men forward to try to get a result one way or the other.

I wish I could get excited about a trophy game but in truth I really just want league points and hope there is a result one way or the other tomorrow. It will be interesting to see one of our title rivals against us to see how we are progressing and could provide a little boost if we can see them off?
There is the money of course which will help our league campaign.

With a team shorn of a couple of speedy attackers tomorrow it will be our toughest test so far. Sutton need a good performance to give themselves confidence for the weeks ahead and I am praying we do not need to get points in our last game to win the league (or get in play offs) - at Billericay.

Well I am keen for Trophy run. We need something else for the season imo. The league might not go to plan, we don't know. The trophy is the only decent cup competition we are in and gives us the chance for some high profile games. I hope both crowd and players are right up for it against probably one of the top 2 or 3 sides in the league.

In addition to the possibility of drawing a "big" club like Luton, Grimsby or Wrexham in the next round, there's also the small matter of £4000 at stake today. Remember we're still playing catch-up on FA Cup prize money we threw away this season.
Come on Sutton!!

Some firsts today - First penalty of the season (2 of them!), first Hat Trick by Mr Forbes and first time we scored more than 3 goals.
Even if we did get 2 penalties, I think we were worth our win against a very good Billiericay side - I'm still convinced they will be in the mix come the end of the season. Strong and quite skillful. Davis coming back made a huge difference for us today, and although it was tricky to pick a MoM, for me it was either him or Dundo (who just caused trouble wherever he was today)
The penalties - the first one was soft to be honest, but it did happen a minute after a clear handball from Billericay. 2nd one was clear and the visitors were lucky not to be down to 10 men there as it was a goalscoring opportunity.
We went into the break comfortably on top, but had a shakier start to the 2nd half, and we sat back a little too much, something which you can't do with a team like Billericay. They got one back, then Forbes calmly got his hat trick, before they got back into it again, and the genius of BWG putting the tie beyond doubt. 4 grand in the bank, and you can't underestimate a result of this magnitude against the in form club. They now have to travel to Lowestoft on Tuesday!
Roll on the draw on Monday, with apart from all the Conf national clubs coming in, we could draw Woking, Uxbridge, Eastleigh, Dartford, Boreham Wood, Welling United, AFC Sudbury, Ashford Middx, Lowestoft, Hornchurch, Harlow as well as other matches yet to be decided. Apart from AFCW or Luton at home, any preferences for you all?
Oh this means now we will have to go to Canvey on a Tuesday night....hmmm

Four goals against a defence that has only conceded 17 goals in 16 league games.

The handball on the line could not have been clearer and how the ref missed it when just about everyone else in the ground saw it gowd knows? The pen we did get a minute later was soft but I saw no contact on the ball so guess it was the right decision. Ricay made the same mistake as they did in the league match by playing to high up the pitch giving us plenty of space to run into and cause havoc. The second penalty as far as I am concerned prevented a goal scoring opportunity and the defender should have seen red, although I know that MarkF does not agree with me Apart from the Maidstone game where we did control the midfield we again showed we can only either attack or defend we appear not to be able to control the flow of the game albeit against a very good Ricay side. If we are not attacking we are normally defending and nothing in between, we beat a good side today because our attack and defence was better than theirs but they were certainly gifted the freedom of the midfield. Having said that and not being negative, I think we showed today we can beat anyone in this league and can terrorise any defence. Forbes a great hatrick and BWG with a top draw finish, its difficult to pick a MOTM because a lot of work went in from the likes of Davis, Dundo and Jolly as well.

Full marks to the team for overcoming a very strong Billericay side. Our response when they were threatening to equalise at 2-1 was a top effort. Thought the management deserve some praise too, the decision to move Dundas back to the midfield made a huge difference at a time they had begun to dominate that area.

The ref had a bizarre game failing to see the handball (BTW, Kes's header looked to be going wide) and then bowing to the lino's judgment for the first he did give. The second one was not a red card as Jolls was heading for the touchline not the goal at the time of the challenge & it could be argued that the 5 may have got across too. Of corse, had he been given the chance he may have changed direction and that is when the 5 comes into the equation.
Great game, Scrivs made 3 fine saves in the first half as did their 'keeper, they pulled one back early in the second and for a time looked like the would equalize. They hit the bar before Forbes cool finish for his third gave U's a 2 goal advantage again. A fine goal brought 'Ricy back in it again until BWG's superb goal ended the contest.
'Ricay are a good side going forward but when we played through the midfield and the channels their defence looked shaky. We looked vulnerable on the left all afternoon with no one in front of Darren Ebsworth and 'Ricay having the lively no 7 (Lawson?) on the right flank.
Great entertainment, shame ony 329 bothered to turn up.
Another toughie on Tuesday with no Simon Downer and is BWG crocked?

I thought we might struggle with both our regular wide players apparently not fit enough to start (though both came on in the second half), but Dos decided to gamble with a 4-3-3 formation and it worked. We caused the Billericay defence quite a few problems early in the game and the two penalties gave us a nice cushion at half time. We needed that as they were the better side for the middle part of the match and our defence came under a lot of pressure as they closed the gap to 2-1. Kavanagh then set up Forbes for his hat-trick but it was no great surprise when Ricay scored a second. Then as they pressed forward for an equaliser we were able to catch them on the break, with Bradley's pace and finishing prowess clinching the victory (against one of his former clubs).
Billericay are certainly one of the best sides we've played this season, and (as in the league match in September) they could consider themselves a bit unlucky to have lost today. But Sutton's ability to prevail over such opponents bodes well for the rest of the season.
