I agree with Andy. There are no easy games in the Ryman but there are a few in the CS.

Harrow have to play AFCH, Bury, Cray & K's all at home plus AFC, Bury & Lowstoft away.
Amazing that considering their recent form they could only draw 0-0 with a Maidstone side reduced to 9 men on Saturday.

And looking at Bury's recent form, its on a par with us - wins against off form teams, draws against those doing ok, and a defeat against an in form team (us Horsham and them Tonbridge). At least we didnt throw a 2-0 lead away on Saturday.

Just back from Concord ( where I was joined by Mr Alan ( he puts the mileage in ) Payne ). Bury were deservedly one up at half time and also had a 2nd "disallowed" for a foul on the keeper in that half. They were then 2 up early in the 2nd, before Concord pulled one back and also had one kicked off the line just after. Deep into stoppage time ( 4 mins ) , Concord got the goal all Sutton fans hoped they would ! Can't believe the official attendance was given as 221, there certainly didn't look that many there !!

We seem to do a lot better when we dont play - a new tactic?

Our 0-0 against Harrow Borough is looking a lot better than it felt at the time.
22 goals for & 3 against with one draw amongst the wins since that game.
It would be nice to play a team out of form for once though!

Promoted teams always do well first season. It's the second season when the other teams have worked out how they play that you find out how good they really are.

Hendon must have the same sort of back log as Lowestoft. They always seem to be behind with their fixtures, even when they were at Claremont Road. Pretty much. Difference this season is that it's mostly because of cups rather than postponements due to weather (we've not really been hit harder on that front than others). Obviously we're one of two clubs to make the FA Cup first round this season and while we went out of the Trophy and league cup early, we've had a number of games called off due to our opponents progressing instead. We were well behind by the start of December, and by that point we'd only lost two games to weather - a county cup tie to fog at home, and Aveley away to a frozen pitch in the first cold snap.

A win saturday would be an absolutely farking HUGE result.
We MUST start taking advantage of sides not making up the ground on us. A 8-10 unbeaten run now could most likely break the back of this division.

My opinion is that yes the Ryman league is not as strong as before the Conf North and South came along, but then a new tier was shoe horned in between. I personally think that there is no indication whatsoever that a gulf has developed between the Ryman and the CS, and that there has been any sort of 'slow decline'. Last season was an abnormally poor season in terms of quality in the Ryman Premier but this season, I think, has gone some way to rectifying things - certainly the quality of football's improved overall and the league seems more competitive throughout. Last season's champions had no real competition and were a cut above, so it's suprirsed me a little that they haven't done too well, but Boreham Wood weren't very good overall, just incredibly effective at what they did. At a higher level, it's no surprise that they've been found out.

Quality may have declined, but I reckon Ryman Prem sides are harder to beat than before the 2004 reorganisation. Teams are better organised, less willing to take risks, and battle to grind out results. Concord Rangers epitomise that approach, but the sideways movement of the Kent clubs into the Ryman League probably had a lot to do with the culture change.

Sorry for being so pessimistic! IF, and it is a big IF we can get 3 points it could be the confidence boost required to get us going again. Bearing in mind who we are playing in the next 8 to 10 games an unbeaten run (based on form) seems highly unlikely, but the challenge is there and we'll soon find out how good this group really is.

Well when we have played 'good' teams this year (Lowestoft and Kingstonian spring to mind, but also Billericay earlier in the season before their collapse, and not forgetting where Hastings were when we played them) we've raised our game too - its the average to poor teams where we let ourselves down.
To be honest, a draw at Bury would be a good result. A win would be fantastic. It depends on which Sutton team turns up on the day. I'm sure Dos will be making sure the right one will on Thursday night at training.
Remember Dartford away last year and Dover at home the year before....with weaker teams.

Spot on, Andy! I'm sure there are plenty of examples of a rubbish performance being followed by a really good one (and vice versa). A year ago today we experienced the low point of a 4-2 home defeat by Ashford (remember all those goals conceded from long throws ), but in our very next game we beat Tonbridge at GGL to embark on an unbeaten run that lasted through to April. The game at Bury is a big challenge. The team now have to prove they can rise to it.

It would be interesting to do a proper correlation on quality, its probably quantifiable with a lot of number crunching but its a definite summer job. I think Hendon Boy's point about last season is fair it may just have been a particularly poor season. There is no doubt that Dover and Staines were quality sides the year before and AFCW / Chelmsford before that, but I am not sure the RP is currently showing that level of quality??
I look at our squad compared to that of sides like Lowerstoft, Bury and it certainly looks stronger on paper, Dos does not think we have seen the best from our side, the bookies who are rarely wrong had us as hot favs to win the league based on our squad. I just cannot help thinking we do have an extra gear which we are struggling to find.
I may have my amber tinted glasses on but I genuinely believe if we can find it now we could go on to win the league with some reasonable daylight between us and the chasers.
A draw at Bury followed by 2 home wins is quite within our grasp, but the single result at Bury whichever way it goes is probably not as important as winning against Croydon & Aveley.
