Despite being a conservative (small "c") traditionalist by nature - for example, I hate the loss of chocolate from our colours and abominate the use of an away strip when there's no colour clash - I've never liked the nickname and I get fed up seeing headlines about us in the NLP which turn out to be about Cambridge Utd. I quite like Gambians. It celebrates a relationship of which we should be justly proud. I agree. Used to love the quartered shirts!

Didn't the club wear all-Amber with a chocolate trim in the 1980's, the Clubs most succesful decade? I think the current shirt is my favourite since I've been watching the Club (not that we've had to many kit changes in the last 17 years), although I also like the stripes. Shows what I know..........
I don't see we should change the nickname, can you imagine chanting 'we are, we are, we are the giraffes'?

I agree with all that, and like Gambians for the same reason, but still don't think a football club should just change its nickname - tradition, innit! I've never liked the nickname U's, but would not push to change it any more than I would to change our colours. Which are awesome.

Having dual allegiance, I didn't like it when Palace changed from the Glaziers and changed the colours. Have to say I am very comfortable with Eagles now and have got used to red & blue instead of claret & sky blue. Plus this season a damn great eagle flies up and down the pitch before KO (it almost had Nathaniel Clyne before one game). More impressive, say, than watching a man install a window.

Oh, so they nicked Benfica's pre-match ritual as well as Barca's colours then? Seriously, leave the nickname alone. Otherwise we're heading into the same sort of murky ground the 'super fighting red & white attack budgies' did down the road.
