A very encouraging performance against a league side. Matched them on the pitch well, with some very solid performances. Even though Wish got MoM (he played well), I thought Jamie Collins had an especially good game too, rewarded with his penalty.
All looking good so far.

Ground looks fantastic. Love the new PA system. Love the way the team looks much more versatile and robust this season. May I take this opportunity for congratulate everyone at the club for all the hard work that has gone in behind the scenes over the close season. The rewards of this effort are there in abundance.
Only negative is that I do not like playing music after a goal is scored. Please cut that rubbish out. Embarrassing.

I liked the look of Salama and Wright. They both seem capable of making the step up

Far too loud under the covered terracing at either end - I do hope they can be individually adjusted!

I just caught the 2nd half so difficult to make any real assessments with so many changes being made, but for me Wish stood out as having a particularly good game. I think Rovers were the slightly more accomplished side but not by the distance we saw against similar opposition in recent seasons. My second ever match on a 3G pitch, it looks superb as does the ground, but they certainly do play a lot slower than a grass pitch. It maybe they easy up in colder damper conditions? Not easy for defenders to see the ball out of play, as the ball wants to die, and I think that's what happened for Rovers second. On the plus side it also holds the ball up going forward, I noticed a couple of players get caught out and standing on the ball. I have no idea if you can water a 3G pitch or if it makes any difference??

The confidence the squad seemed to have in the new pitch at this early stage was impressive to me, bit of a scrappy game overall in my opinion, Rover's defence not looking the sharpest and giving us the ball on a few occasions and we generally failed to create anything clear cut but certainly the result (as little as it matters anyway) does not reflect the game accurately. We're already looking organised which is incredibly encouraging and can get ourselves ready for the two friendlies that will really show us where we are by enjoying the 'glamour' friendlies preceding them.

I liked the look of Salama and Wright. They both seem capable of making the step up Probably the biggest plus point for me. Salama seems bright, always looking for a quick free kick etc. a refreshing change from the 'get ourselves set up' slow it down brigade. We played pretty well 2nd period. Shaq also looked lively, hope to see him make some strides this season. Not sure about the wisdom of playing 2 games in 2 days Still managed to gift a goal and allow a couple of free headers from set pieces. I know only just started pre season but we need to tighten up in those areas to do better than last season. Overall ok.

First and foremost I must commend the pitch - an absolutely fantastic job done on it this summer! What a view it is - not a dodgy bounce in sight! I enjoyed the game where I thought we played well as early friendlies go and also after having played yesterday too. Particular mentions to Bolarinwa who impressed me in the first half with his frightening pace and and was a good outlet for us. The young lad Wright looks a kid of real potential up front with his performance in the second half, anyone know how old he is? As has been said in an earlier post Wishart put in a good shift down the left side.
Onto Tuesday night against Palace now!

The pitch looked fantastic and played better than any 3G I have seen (that's Maidstone's & Whyteleafe's). The ball did not bounce ridiculously high and it was true and the speed of the game was fine (it was a pre-season friendly). As for watering it OS, one would hope so or are you expecting a Centre Court style roof for when it rains?
As for the match, I thought we played some good stuff at times. Wright looks to have some potential and H-P did well until he got crocked. Can see why we signed Bolarinwa too. At last too, in McAllister, we have a guy up front who will cause problems for the giant centre-backs that NS league tends to employ.
Not sure if I have missed something but where is Ross Stearn? Anyway, all looking fine and dandy at this rather early stage.

from the OS New signing Ross Stearn was missing in action over the weekend but for good reason. Ross and his wife are new parents after they had a baby girl on Saturday. All at the Club wish the new parents well and look forward to seeing Ross in action on Tuesday night against Crystal Palace.
Alan Pardew and Mark Bright have also confirmed their attendance on Tuesday evening for the official opening of our fabulous new pitch. We look forward to seeing you all on the night.

We have started early Anyway not a criticism of the pitch merely an observation, and no I am not expecting a retracting roof, the question was can you do anything to a 3G to effect the way it plays? Like less or more rubber balls, does it react similar to a grass pitch if you wet the surface??
