It has and will always be Surrey for me.As someone now living in Kent the railways are very confused. When you buy a ticket to Sutton it is for Sutton London but when you check times on the National Rail Website it shows Sutton Surrey!

Cheam by birth...gotta be Surrey for me. Affiliated to the Surrey FA, play in the SSC. We can be the best team in our county (only Woking ahead of us). Unlikely to achieve that if we consider ourselves a London club!!

Hatched in Surrey, moved to Kent, but if I die in either location it'll be London :-(

On the good side, it's a measure of how well the team is doing that this is all we can find to 'argue' about!

It's an interesting debate and open to interpretations in my opinion. I regard us in Surrey and having resided in Wallington and Carshalton all my life I have never had anything addressed to me as Wallington, London. It's always been Wallington, Surrey. Surrey County Cricket club is based in London, SE11 and not Surrey. When it comes to Legal Aid rates there is a lower charge per hour for London than outside London so my argument is that Sutton, Croydon etc. although Boroughs of London are not inside London. They're not the same as SW, NW, EC etc. Of course, all of this is to do with the Post Office and its "fossilised" addresses When we moved into our current home in Sutton, my husband (formerly of Wimbledon) had to be gently persuaded not to give our address as "[street], Sutton, London." I had to explain that he's right in that it is in London but the address was incorrect because it's still Surrey from a Post Office point of view but only that. Likewise, something addressed to you at Wallington, London would be incorrect but only in terms of the use of correct Post Office terminology.

London postal addresses finish in SW.After that they are Surrey. You wouldn't address a letter to Sutton,London would you.Sutton,Croydon ,Kingston were better off being administered by Surrey in my humble opinion.

Wikipedia quotes "Sutton, London" which just comes across as odd to me. When I lived in Sutton I always felt part of leafy Surrey, away from the hurly-burly of the noisy metropolis. One thing I wouldn't mind though, is if we tried our luck in the London Senior Cup for a few seasons rather than the SSC (some clubs like Met. Police, Corinthian Casuals and Tooting & Mitcham complete in both, which is a bit crazy because they also have their league cup to play in as well). There'd be a number of novel teams in the LSC and some new grounds to visit (for some of us), like Tower Hamlets, Haringey Borough, Cockfosters, London Bari.....

Well, Haringey are playing their games at Tilbury for the moment, as their own pitch is so bad, but it is an interesting ground with a big stand (and nothing else). London Bari are playing at Clapton's Old Spotted Dog, which I'm sure supporters of a certain vintage will know well. Tower Hamlet's Mile End Stadium is another which is a stand and not much else. However, if you could guarantee a game at Cockfosters, I'm in favour!

I was gutted about Haringey Borough having to play at Tilbury as I had a gig a few Sunday's back and saw they were at home just up the road. Well I thought it was just up the road from the gig...

I always considered Sutton to be in London administratively and in Surrey geographically. London Boroughs were set up for the purposes of admin and later, the voting in local elections. LBS came into being c1965 and the first Mayor of the Borough was our very own, the late, Mr Andrew Letts.
Prior to that Sutton became a Borough in its own right in 1935. The Borough Charter was celebrated with a week of events in September 1934 and U's part in that was to play QPR in a friendly match at the Borough Sports Ground. The match was ceremoniously "kicked off" by Sir Frederick Wall.

Related (I think). he was president of the FA at one time though.
Thomas Wall was the ice cream and sausage man, I believe.

He was indeed Mark, and good at both. His idea to bring in sausage ice cream quickly melted away though...

Anyone who lives outside London would know instantly that it was part or atleast tagged onto a big city. With the exception of our great club, Sutton lacks any sense of community feel. The media are only interested in central London so don't bother with the suburbs, so you don't hear of those local events, you don't hear whats going on in your area on a daily basis. If you live as many U's fans do away from Sutton, you notice there is still a community, people identify with their area, they don't thrown their take away wrappers on the street. You can find somewhere to park, you can do more than 3 miles in an hour. I listen to BBC Kent, I hear the latest non league news and the interviews with Ebbsfleet players etc, and in truth it just makes me sad that Sutton doesn't have that.
The club is the only thing that keeps me beleiving in the town If I am honest.
