Having just looked at Paul’s photos, he captured so many of the “holding” and “hugging” that the Barrow players continually did, which the ref did absolutely nothing about. Players will carry on doing that until ref’s have the balls to do something about it!

Do we need Taylor back now? erm why? Josh didn’t get much game time before being loaned out to Maidstone and I can’t see that changing if he came back. As the Maidstone fan says on the “ex player thread” he’s not pulling up any trees for them.

The Sutton midfield couldn't get enough control of the ball today, although Ayunga looks very assured on the ball.
I was surprised that the shirt pulling by Barrow's defenders in the box wasn't questioned by the officials - perhaps they thought it was from both sides.
As an aside, the pitch looked over-loaded with rubber crumb - there was more spray than I have noticed before.

Among the most blatant I've seen, and a stricter ref could have given at least one penalty against Barrow. They'd identified Collins and Beckwith as threats at corners and clearly impeded them as the ball came in. I can't comment on what happened at Barrow corners as I was too far away.

The Barrow manager was in the Players bar last night and I complained to him about his teams tactics at corners in particular and that if we had a decent referee Sutton should have had a least one penalty!
He replied "I'm only doing my job, Sutton are renowned for their success at set piece play and its my job to stop them"
Having looked at Paul's latest photos view set piece shirt pulling and body holding then focus on other photos with their number 4, he was an absolute thug!!

There's a lot of different ways to win a football match and if you are holding your breath waiting for those sort of infringements at this level to start resulting in penalties with any frequency, ala world cup 2018 (or penaltyfest as I remember it) you may be waiting for a long time. As had been said, ref lets it go once that's carte Blanche to do it everytime but it's been part of football for ever.
Their 4 was quite possibly the difference between the sides, we had no one shielding and breaking up play (by fair or foul). Obviously dos's post match interview shed some light on our injury problems which have left us bereft in that position. Hope fully we have enough fit bodies to give Barnet a good game, they must be a little light too the amount of games they've played this month

Another late entry from y.t. so won't be a long one.
Thought Barrow showed a lot of attacking threat down the right and Kay probably deserved the goal. Ironic that it should be via a wicked deflection considering the two big chanced they missed. U's too, had a couple they probably should have netted with but overall couldn't argue with the result and therefore Barrow's first win at GGL.
Had to laugh at their manager with the ref at the end, pointing to where that penalty should have been given. Short memory mate; it didn't cost you like those two decisions at Holker Street did us. And the guy who on their forum reckons Mr Purkiss was our 12th man. If that was the case Barrow had a 12th and a 13th at their gaff.
As for the ref. Weak, lacking observation and as for the holding by their defence he was criminally incompetent. There was a couple of occasions where their defenders were a throwback to the World Cup and Harry Kane. Neither looking at the ball just totally committed to stopping their designated opponent getting onto the delivery.
Noted the comment about the new young lad, Kearney elsewhere on this thread. FFS, give him a bloody chance. Once incident he had to do was having brushed past their 15, he was unceremoniously kicked in the back of the thigh. Neither official saw it as the guy would have had to have gone otherwise.
Onto Barnet and their myopic fans for another tough NL fixture.

Bit intrigued by the suggestion that Kearney isn't being given a chance by some of our supporters. The only comment I've seen on this thread about Kearney was one suggesting that he may require some time to adapt to this level of football.
Given that he's recently been plying his trade in the Evo-Stick League Premier Division South (7th tier), this doesn't seem like an unreasonable assessment. Adapting to a level of football two tiers higher than what you're familiar with is bound to take some time, irrespective of a player's talent.

My point is based on why even make such a bleedin' obvious observation based on 20 odd minutes?

Not sure we can judge anyone by 20 mins thrown on as a sub but I actually thought Kearney looked pretty lively and clearly had a nice touch. Can’t fault the passion/ enthusiasm either though not sure the jostle with Gimr really helped anyone - put it down to over exuberance on debut.
I’m yes of the game itself pretty poor performance second half especially. Barrow deserved the win IMHO. We clearly missed KD and/ or NB

I do enjoy this kind of chat (regarding players and how long you should give them).
This is my own theory based on watching football since I was 5 (that’s only 20 yrs then)!
Anyway, I think you have to give players 10/12 matches to suss out their potential, but the problem even at our level is patience from everyone and that’s including the terraces where you generally get the most impatient bunch.
EG: Alexis Sanchez @mu he needs a run of games (I would say 7/8) to find his form which has gone missing but will he get that, we will have to wait and see.
I’m sure DK will make his mark it’s all about patience.

I'd take Sanchez on loan, he has already shown he likes playing on the surface ! :-)
