Can’t we just take it as the bit of fun it is?
People will have different motivations for their selections but I’d hazard a guess that our teams of the last 5 years would hammer the ones coming before it. I tried to choose the best and most balanced side I could. Others may want longevity to be reflected etc. Who cares?
Who are the players that have gone on to play in the Championship?

Andy i'm dreadful with names and as you know so many players have come and gone. Yes i can obviously remember 11 but i notice from the players selected so far most of them have been recent additions. So far there are also players we had who have gone on to play in the Championship and not got a mention. Yes, I noticed that too. I kind of raise an eyebrow when a player who’s been with us for just over four months is chosen for a team of the decade! People can choose who they wish of course, but it's all a bit chaotic for various starting XI's to be randomly lobbed into the ring. The more structured way of doing it is to conduct a series of polls. I outlined my thinking in a post in the GOAT thread last month: While this is all good fun, what we really ought to do sometime is have a huge set of polls to determine ‘The Greatest Ever Sutton United XI as voted for by forum members’. Off the top of my head, we could start with a period of time during which any number of players can be nominated. Then each player would need to be bracketed into which position they qualify for. Assuming 4-4-2 for convenience, there could be: goalkeeper, right-back, centre-back (x2), left-back, right midfield, centre midfield (x2), left midfield and striker (x2). Then finally we’d have a separate poll for each position.
Something along those lines anyway. Once the polls for the starting line-up are finished, it would even be straightforward to select the best 5 for the subs bench as well.
That's kind of what I suggested in the opening post. But as we've had so many players in the last 10 years we have to narrow it down a bit! People picking Ajiboye in their team of the decade kind of reminds me of the Captial Radio all time top 500 songs of all time and in 1988 positions 1,3 and 4 were all occupied by Bros songs!

Had him in because I like 2 attacking wide players and I don’t think I’ve seen a bigger threat than him in the last decade down that side. All opinions and again depends on criteria.

For me you can't really look much past the side that won us promotion to the National and the FA cup run.
Its difficult to find too many others to add to that fantastic squad, Cloughie I think being 1 of them.
The 15/16 squad ranks alongside the 87-89 team, the 2 very best U's teams I have seen play under the 2 very best managers since before my time.

So, no real interest in forming a definitive Amber Planet Team of the Decade then? Okay. It would have been a cracking caper though to find out how the final team would have been made up, not to mention a fitting way to mark the end of a fabulous 10 years, but hey ho, unimaginativeness rules!
Right, I’m off to the family get-together. Hope everybody has a great Christmas Day.

Amberchoc, I’m sure if someone wants to organise something it can be done. Maybe give others a bit of time to respond! Merry Christmas.

Perhaps we need to have a poll to decide whether we should do Team of the Decade polls!
I don’t mind starting things off with a goalkeeper poll, but we’d need to have a set period of time for nominations, perhaps a week at the most.

Make that 2 for the man, it was the penalty saves that did it for me let alone his goal stopping skills.

And we've got tough league games against Stafford Rangers, Northwich Victoria, Enfield and Telford United coming up. And a slightly easier one against Runcorn too
