For the second game in a row we snatch three points in stoppage time, and that after an underwhelming first half. This is a team that just doesn't give up. The fitness and determination of the players really told in those frantic final minutes. Bromley will be wondering how they lost that, having seemingly been in control of the match. Those of us who watch Sutton regularly will be starting to understand.

Wow! Have Bogey FC finally ceased to be our Bromley team? It didn't seem like that for the first quarter hour. That was Zombey v Bromley as U's seemed to stand off and wait for Bromley to take the lead before waking up. We sparked into life but the visitors deserved their half time lead. Eastmond converted a good free-kick at the back post early in the second half. The momentum was with Sutton but as the U's defence back-pedalled under Bromley free kick the clearing header didn't travel far enough and a long, low volley crept in to restore Bromley's lead.
You would have to say that if last season's Sutton managed to equalize from there, they would have settled for a point and shut up shop. This is a team of different calibre, motivated by Matt and their own desire, not only to equalise but to bag a magnificent win. It does not matter how they go in. If you keep the ball is flying around in their penalty box it can only go in the goal at that end.

That's the stuff champions are made of. I don't need to comment further.

Wrexham look good value there, a point behind Stockport and a game extra played - big disparity in odds. Plus now well backed, though there may be limits as to who they can add at this stage. You’d say Solihull down in 16th, albeit with games in hand have far less of a chance!!

For God's sake let's not get too excited. There is still a long way to go and we have more games to play than our rivals and probably less strength in depth.

I agree about the squad, but, Coby Rowe aside, we've been quite lucky with injuries this season. Matt being able to field a settled side has played a part in the success. As we know, that situation can quickly change.

In reply to the question about five straight wins at this level, we have done it before though you have to go back to the days of Barrie Williams and Keith Blunt. Five straight league wins, punctuated by a number of cup ties, between December 1986 and February 1987(Maidstone twice, Boston, Telford, Northwich) and again under Keith in April 1990(Runcorn, Enfield, Fisher, Stafford, Northwich).Neither of those runs continued to six.

Yes, I keep having to remind myself that we are now exactly half way through the season. But I cannot deny that we are currently playing like champions. The manner in which we are winning games is precisely what championship sides do.

I've looked back at the only really recent comparable season at this level, back in 2017/18. This is where we were after 22 games - www.footballwebpages.co.uk/national-league/league-table/2017-2018/date/20171125Obviously we're 7 points better, but that season was a lot closer at this stage. We were also, top of the league. Eventual winners Macclesfield were a point behind in 3rd. Of course by the time we got to the end of the season we finished 3rd, 13 points behind the eventual champions and 3 points behind 2nd place. There is still a hell of a lot that can happen this season, but I can't disagree with Trev. Maybe losing to Notts County or the Dagenham and Wealdstone draws taught us things that are helping shape our season.

Bromley may have the legue's top scorer and he duly delivered last night (couldn't miss) but I was more impressed with the guy he replaced at Bromley. Omar Bugiel's beligerent battling display in the second half was the catalyst to Sutton's up turn in fortunes. Where it was the visitors who were closing down from the top and giving U's little room to do anything but put in crosses that were gobbled up by their back line (Webster is huge), in the second half it was U's who were the more impressive.
For all of Bromley's first half performance how many efforts did they get on target? Their movement up front was good and U's defensive structure was pulled somewhat when they scored - Ben G beaten on the left and the cross knocked back for Cheek to net. I thought the challenge on David A was appalling but as Ben was possibly fortunate to only see yellow at Dagenham then so was Mr Raymond (nice guy by the way).
Second half, Cousins was worked far more than Dean B was in the first as U's were the dominant force. The second goal to earn a point was well deserved and Webster's later intervention, fortunate but a big bonus.
For the poster who earlier in this thread thought we was "jammy" then he/she fails to appreciate the tremendous hard work the team put in last night and to come back twice from behind and win is not "jammy". It is perserverance, ability, quality and sheer bloody mindedness. The delivery for the first, the passing and movement for the second, the "till the last second" belief for the winner. It is why we are where we currently are.
