You nearly won me seventy quid, Sol. I had a Godiva on it at 14/1.

A much more open game than last Tuesday's, with Aldershot really going for it after equalising in the first half. Louis John's goal that put us back in front just before half-time was pivotal. Scoring three goals will have rebuilt confidence after only one in the previous two matches.
Three of the top four won today. We wait to see if Hartlepool can keep pace by beating Chesterfield.

An odd result because for much of the game Aldershot played the more constructive football. Matt changed that late with the addition of Davis. David and Tanto persisted in trying to rum through the entire Aldershot defences with never a thought of give-and-go pass.
Ahmed's enunciation of opponents' surnames can be indistinct. Today I thought I heard him saying Shots (appropriately) attack was being led by Annie Oakley. The greatest sharp-shooter of all time would not have missed any of the open goals in this game. David's miss to make it 2-0 swung the fortune towards the visitors who equalized and bossed the rest of the first half until the last action - Lewis John's thumping header spared his team-mates a hairdryer at half time. In the second half I thought Sutton were comfortable even before Tanto pounced on a loose ball in the box. The game management - recently a problem - was excellent.

First half was quite an open game. Aldershot looked ok going forward and if they can retain their best players and add a couple could be a play off challenger next season. They came across a bit soft at set pieces, not sure if that is a familiar issue across their season, if so perhaps explains their inconsistency. I’m not sure they were quite ever as on top as our commentary team suggest, good sides tend to have spells of possession and that doesn’t mean we’re hanging on by the skin of our teeth. Certainly we tightened up 2nd half and were fully in charge from the third.
Loss of Milsom a blow, looked muscular so we’ll likely miss him off a while and if a bad one the remainder of the season.
Next up Notts, a good time to break our BT duck for the season.

I found the commentary good although sometimes Ahmed is prone to malaphors (one for you Sallycat !). These can be quite amusing though. The Shots player Nouble also had several pronounciations, that said I couldn't do commentary, its quite a skill.

For me, our first really convincing display since Bromley away. We needed that and has given me confidence that we can kick on and do the job, regardless of other results. 6 more games. Win 5, we win the title. Win 4 it's still very possible. Beat Weymouth and Woking at home, and Maidenhead and Barnet away. That's not beyond what we can do. Beat Notts County on Tues on top of that we're national league champions 2021.
One more will will guarantee a play off spot. But that's a consolation prize.

I've more fingers and toes crossed than a cryptic crossword of the largest crossword in the world ever. Never thought that I'd be cheering on Eastleigh twice in a season. Well I wouldn't say that I was as nervous as a very small nun at a penguin shoot at 2-1 but that third goal has made me feel as confident as the bloke that fires the bullet at said nun. I just hope Julie Andrews ducks. Are you... all right?

I'm OK thank you. Ish. Most kind that you asked though.
Maybe I should just stick to chess. Not the greatest fun for a spectator but fun nonetheless for the people playing.

Private Eye's "Commentatorballs" column is chock full of them. BT Sports Ian Darke's "Any minute now, the referee will blow on his watch" being a classic example.

6 more games. Win 5, we win the title. Win 4 it's still very possible. I’d be very surprised if 4 wins from 6 isn’t enough to win it. A tough ask but doable. One game at a time etc. If we can find a tv win and break that duck for the season on Tuesday we’ll have a good chance I’d think. I think being right in the mix with 6 games to go in itself is a quite frankly unbelievable achievement and we shouldn’t lose sight of that come season end no matter what. I don’t think we’ll be an easy touch in the play offs if it comes to it.

I don’t think we’ll be an easy touch in the play offs if it comes to it. I'd be surprised if 4 wins WAS enough personally! The other three sides are top of the 5,10 and 15 game form table and I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them win every game (Stockport probably have to, but even then 4 wins beats them) . Torquay Stockport looks pivotal. 4 wins could be enough but would need to include pools. 4 wins and a draw will probably take it to goal difference as I expect torquay to win 5 of 6. Agree with your second sentence wholeheartedly though!
