I was passing by the stadium today, through the park - pitch is still there, no work being done Please be assured the matter is in hand, and whilst there won't be a "running commentary" the Board will provide regular updates much as we did through the season with respect to Covid developments and all off-field matters. The reality is the pitch is still in use, the First Team are still training, their season not yet concluded, as well as a number of match obligations today and over the weekend. The contractors undertaking the works have already attended a number of visits on site, and equipment is beginning to arrive for what is a large scale project, and visible works will commence soon enough - although we are not encouraging visitors to monitor that progress! The team, by their exploits, have created an extra week that wouldn't have been available if they were crowned Champions this weekend. Expecting things to have been brought forward as a result is simply not a practical reality in the commercial world.

I had it 'on good authority' that you don't receive anything for winning the National League, so the figure quoted of £900,000 that all League 2 Clubs receive IS nearer the mark At one of the ‘meet the manager’ evenings, Dos eluded to such an amount being what SUFC would receive if promoted. The downside to using more than half of that amount on the pitch was that it was money not being spent on the squad, and a disadvantage therefore as the other teams tend to use the money for exactly that. Having said that, no doubt our very able board have already got several things up their sleeves to counteract that.

From what I know, the normal lifespan of a 3G pitch is of 7-8 years, and that if is not heavily used. As I read this one was laid in 2015, so it is pretty close to the “expiration time” anyway. Of course incurring the expense even a couple of years later would have been helpful, also the infrastructure below must be altered probably if it is replaced by a grass pitch, however what I am trying to say is that it is not as bad as it looks, and some funds for the pitch replacement would have been necessary anyway in the near future.

Just seen on Twitter, the work starting on the playing surface. A bit sad really because all those great games on it but that’s the rules. The next chapter off this great club has started👍

If there should be a quiz night in the future, a good question would be ‘What was the last fixture to be played on the 3G surface before it was replaced with grass?’ (because it wasn’t the Hartlepool game!).
