The EFL fixtures will be released on the 24th June👍🏻👍🏻 Fixture Release Day: how are fixture lists compiled? There are more than 1,600 matches played across the EFL’s five competitions every season, making compiling fixtures no easy task. At the outset, fixtures are randomly generated, although there are a number of stages and processes to follow to make sure we get it right for our Clubs and supporters. A working party, consisting of a cross-section of Clubs from each division and a representative from the Football Supporters’ Association, meet prior to the scheduling process to ensure the compilation procedure is a fair one for all 72 Clubs. They have had over 100 years to practice. Surely it's relatively only recently that computers have been used.
I realise that the introduction of more internationals has put more obstacles in the way.
It used to be more sensible around 30 years ago; for instance I wasn't one but I know of people who would watch Chelsea at home one week and Fulham the next.
Surely with modern computer programmes it shouldn't be a problem. All they need to do is fill in all of the relevant information. And Christmas and Easter programmes were usually as much of a local derby as possible.

It doesn't say it's a problem. They're just telling us how they do it. Clearly certain parts can be automated, like the 2:3 rule for every five matches, but there are certain events that would need to be fed in one by one and decisions about which way is fairer when things clash can't be done by a computer.

I found it quite interesting to read. I presume Sutton will be paired with Wimbledon? That would be the most logical choice.

I can’t see how they can contend with not knowing the exact composition of League 2 until next Sunday and get feedback from Torquay or Hartlepool. I presume they will have produced two different sets of fixtures dependent on who qualifies , Torquay and Hartlepool can’t be interchangeable especially when it comes to local derbies!

I'm not aware of any Crawley fans coming to watch Sutton but quite a few AFC Wombles do so to be paired with them would make much more sense. We then both don't play at home on the same Saturday at least.
