Not to put too fine a point on it, we were mugged off. That's going to happen to us again at this level if we don't wise up. But I have sufficient faith in Matt and this group of players to believe that we'll do that.
We had most of the play in the first twenty minutes, but were still finding our feet. The opposition were tending to win the 50-50 balls. Then one routine looping leader that was on target caught out Dean Bouzanis and we were 1-0 down. We rallied after half-time, David Ajiboye at last finding space to float in a cross that was bulleted home by Omar (who'd barely threatened beforehand).
Matt will no doubt be holding an inquest into FGR's stoppage time winner, covering both the concession of the free kick and the manner in which it was headed past Bouzanis.
Given that we were playing one of the fancied sides in League Two, I don't think we should be disheartened by what happened today.

Referee mugged off. Never a free kick.

Nothing wrong with the performance at all, great to se us bag our first ever league goal and in truth there was little between the teams which say we are where we deserve to be. Having said that the goal that beat us today could have been scored at Ryman Level, whether the ref was right or wrong doesn't matter you need to defend them better. Matt will be rightly proud of the performance today but I am sure he will not be happy at all with losing to a basic goal like that.
Ref decisions balance themselves out over the season, I don't think we have anything to fear from this level, we didn't lose 4-0 we held our own, but if you do give other teams something on a plate in this league they are going to take it.

On the basis of today's performance we're going to be fine in this division if FGR are one of the favourites. Little to choose between the sides. I know a few will probably blame Bouzanis for the 2nd but if you were standing out in that downpour when that goal went in you'd struggle to see anything.
Good team performance, a couple of players will probably think they could have done better, but Eastmond today. Utterly immense.

In a historic match for the U's which we only lost just as the 4 minutes injury time board went up, the travelling support was joined by the one and only Simon Downer and his 2 kids, was great to catch up with him again

First off, solid performance, Sutton better in the second half, more purpose about them, pushing forward. Getting the goal, the celebration, an Omar goal, it was a joy to witness it. Then that goal, I didn’t see it, not because of the rain but my hands covered my eyes. I feared the worse, the 90th minute, the angle the free kick was being taken was I thought favourable for FGR and lastly the the torrent of rain coming down. I felt a goal was coming. Could have defended it better but our players gave it their all.

I thought that we were a bit wasteful with our passing today at times. We conceded two goals which were poor goals to concede but apart from that we competed well and shouldn't look out of place in this division if FGR are one of the better teams.

2 very soft goals conceded, think Dean will be disappointed with both but he’ll come back fine. Overall effort was as we would expect from this group - fantastic. Felt decision making and composure not quite where it will be once we settle. Couple of players probably needing a few more minutes to be at their best too. Thought we could have freshened up in midfield in the last 10 as we looked as though we were tiring.
But when all said and done brilliant day for the club, to be competing as a league club still remains unreal to me.

On passing, great to see players run with the ball but occasionally I thought they needed to release the ball as a pass to a team mate sooner rather than continue the run. Our machine will oil in the coming weeks and points will be gained.

Disappointing to concede the last minute goal, in a game where FGR were there for the taking. Great support from the 335 fans on this historical day. Make that 336 fans-I was seated in the main stand (I watched the game with an FGR mate who bought mine)

On behalf of the Board, Management Team, and Players, a huge thank you and respect to all the Sutton fans that made it to the game on such a historic day yesterday. It wasn't just those on the pitch that showed we belong at this level. The whole Sutton family showed itself at its best, as was commented on by both home and neutral visitors on numerous occasions.
A few more away trips to come, and then we will be "back home".

Having seen the goals I think Bousanis will be disappointed with them, saying that still a good keeper. Think Matt will have words and he will be fine.⚽️

A great day out, to witness Suttons first game in the football league after supporting this great club for over 70years. Re the numbers add 3 booked direct as not living close to the ground. Just watched the edited highlights and confirms that the two goals were on the soft side. No doubt Matt and co will be looking into that aspect of our game, both headed goals. A great pity no program , not sure why, or does it come under the vegan umbrella!!. Well done to all.
