"Much like we had 11,000 at GGL for Leeds, which shows the impact of modern H&S rules!"
Officially 14,000 (but probably nearer 15,000) !

"So would that be the largest capacity stadium that the club has played a competitive match in (aside from Wembley of course!)" St Andrews ? Craven Cottage ? Ayresome Park ? How big was Carrow Road when we played there ? We played a London Challenge Cup tie at Upton Park. Pre Taylor report, from what I can establish, Carrow Road had a capacity of around 28,000. Of course that fateful day we took over 5,000 there and if I remember rightly, the attendance that day was just over 23k, which was their highest attendance of the season up to that point.

Back to the match - worth noting some of the fees of their starting XI
Smithies (GK) £3.6m, Morrison (DF) £3.37m, Flint (DF) £4m, Vaulks (MF) £2m, Moore (FW) £2m, Murphy (FW) £10.3m.
The players that played last night Cardiff had paid over £25m for in total. Compare that to how much we have paid for our squad. At a best guess, Cardiff have paid 500 times more for players than we have. And we ran them bloody close.
I can't speak for anyone else but the atmosphere last night really reminded me of the Bohemians match. The fans were in the best voice I've heard them in for years, and there was a total sense of unity. We obviously can take pride for what happened on the pitch, but the fans did themselves proud too.

The support was indeed excellent, clearly heard in the main stand and at times overpowering the larger home contingent. Many thanks to everyone who went. The mood on the team coach afterwards was very much one of disappointment that we had not beaten a club from two divisions above us who were actually in the Premier League not long ago.

No, it was a poor joke on shirt sizes. Very good read though.

I’m surprised Sol hasn’t posted- he did very well to remain impartial in his frequent reports on 5 live. He did seem inordinately well briefed on Sutton and it’s players including our passing connection with Love Island…..it’s almost as if he had some connection to the club. 🤔

No, it was a poor joke on shirt sizes. Very good read though. Thanks. I learned my lesson from the Teal green Jersey which despite being large size was decidedly tight one. For our third kit I think I want XL2. After Chip ally in Cardiff I'll be XL3 😊

Smithies (GK) £1.56m, Morrison (DF) £1.3m, Flint (DF) £936k, Vaulks (MF) £520k, Moore (FW) £624k, Murphy (FW) £1.3m.
Nelson £728k Sang £21.3k (but has signed new contract). I think Cardiff has 11 players on over £1m a year and their total wage bill is £23m.
For me one of the best bits last night apart from the goals was seeing a top championship side at home heading for the corner flag in added time, against little old Sutton, that is how well we played.
Having said all that we are where we are on merit, and we need to get on with the job of winning matches.

The only other way we would meet a Championship club is in the 3rd round of the FA Cup so this was another of those occasions worth savouring. And the players were outstanding in their approach, commitment, skill and togetherness. Our first goal was brilliant from the pass by Dean B to David A's cross and Donovan W's finish. Yes their equaliser was unfortunate and probably not desererved at the time but it did change the game. As on Saturday, I think a draw would have been the correct result. I think they had three shots on target (not including those blocked) while we had at least five.
Thought Kenny D and Craig E were excellent in the middle while Harry B was influential on the left and the home side struggled to contain David A at times. Up to their first the defence had been very solid and while the second was a great strike it was lucky how it fell to their fella while the third was deflected and as a result of us pushing for an equaliser. Coby Rowe's first goal for U's (what a venue to score it) set up an exciting last few minutes with Harry thwarted by Smithie's (arguably their motm alongside the debut brace scoring Watkins). A fantastic effort once again. I am proud of the club but more proud of the pride and committment shown by the players, Matt G and all.
We have been spoilt by the venues visited in recent seasons; Notts County, Tranmere etc but this was another step up. Sometimes you have to pinch yourself to realise how far the club has come. Ok, we were sat in the corner with the sun, that took an age to drop behind the stadium (I pondered if the ground had been built on old mining works and was sinking!) constantly in our eyes but shades and a cap did the trick. And they printed a programme. Nothing special but in this day and age, a welcome effort.
Of course, there always seems to be a downside. At FGR it was the weather and lack of covering, last night it was the M4 closure. Not really a problem unless the sat nav in the car you're travelling in appears to have taken an illegal substance. We ended up taking a near 50 mile detour heading for Merthyr, Abergavenny, Monmouth before dropping back down to Newport. We overtook the Supporters' coach 6.5 miles outside Swindon. The coach had left after us!! The A48 south of Newport would have been the better way. If you're that interested have a look at the map and you will see what I mean. Ho hum. I think I will take a map next time.
Salford next, it is a tough start to the season but two defeats in two really don't tell the story so far.

Yes we always seem to encounter road closures on motorways when we have a long trip back on a Tuesday night. Wish i had stayed in Cardiff or close by for the night !

The risk of travel disruption, irrespective of how or when you go, is one of the hazards of following your team away. Trains back from Cardiff to London yesterday lunchtime were badly delayed.

As a postscript, I see that Cardiff are home to Brighton in the 2nd round.
Could've been us preparing to thwack their under-23s again.😉
