Very impressed with us again today, think we can hold our own in this division. Nice little ground, banging indie choons and a decent pie, best away day in a long while.
Kenny was magnifique again, and everyone put in a shift, except boldejwin disappointed me a little. He wasn't committed in several tackles and got caught on his heels several times. Not keen on him through the centre at all, definitely looks more comfortable out wide but I'd like to see a lot more aggression from him.
Shane Craig couldn't win it at the end but draw was the right result.

Salford. Total passes 579, completed 430 Sutton. Total 300, completed 158 (52%). It is a similar ratio for the FGR (56%) and Cardiff (53%)games. Our opponents got 10-15% better than those stats at very least. Improving that will improve every other stat we will get and will translate into results. Was never going to be any different in these games. Let’s see how we go at Scunthorpe. The important thing is our defence and organisation has held up against 2 teams likely to be in the promotion shake up and a top Championship side. None of them created too much from open play and certainly weren’t carving us open. Very true and reason for optimism. Although It is early days and time could yet prove that the likes of F Green and Salford are average this season and the likes of Scunthorpe challenging, likely to not be the case but still.

A week of EFL firsts for the club. First match, goal, cup tie and now point.
The last of that list came thanks to another committed display from the team, the players fitness tested by Salford's ability to play decent football at a good pace. I thought Salford was better than FGR but U's defended superbly with the back five impressive and the four midfielders doing their bit too to restrict their goal scoring opportunities. A promotion generally needs a few games to get to the new level and I think U's have got their quickly.
It appeared both sides enjoyed playing up the slope more than down it but created their best chances with the advantage of the latter. Lund, arriving to meet a low right wing cross, should have scored for the hosts just before h-t but Louis J saw his header come off the woodwork while Craig E brought a fine low save from King late on. U's had to really work hard off the ball but to a man they did that very well and deserved the point.
The ref was probably on the level of the first two we have seen this season - to be kind, average - but he did spot the dive late on. He was guilty of allowing the home side to persistently stop David A illegaly while a second minute challenge on Craig E was late, over forceful and worthy of a yellow that wasn't shown.
It was nice to stand in comfortable surroundings, covered while the Manchester drizzle fell through much of the match. People moan about Gary Neville & co bankrolling the club but £15 entry (I am a few weeks short of qualifying for the senior citizen price) for L2 is a bloody good deal. A programme too. Not great but PRINTED.
Yesterday was my first experience of supporters clib travel since the FAC tie at Kidderminster some seasons back (a horrific tale of coach driving incompetence and one man's ego almost causing him serious injury). This was a far more sedate journey in comparison but the M6 was at its worst and the total travel time from Sutton was just of 5.5 hours plus an hours break. The return in total was 5.25 hours but with the a24 shut the less agreeable a29 had to be used for my way back to the south coast. A small pennance to pay for watching another fine performance from SUFC. All being well it is back on the choo-choo for Scunny next week.

I'll just add that there were a couple of somewhat familiar names in the Salford squad (much changed since our previous visit in March 2019). Andy has already mentioned Brandon Thomas-Asante (scorer of a memorable goal for us at Bromley during his brief loan spell), who started up front for them and was something of a handful. Then late in the game on came Tom Elliott, who'd scored AFC Wimbledon's goal in our famous FA Cup victory at Kingsmeadow in January 2017. (He's been at Millwall since then.) His main contribution yesterday was to get booked for diving, drawing a cheer from the Sutton end.
