Another away point and continues a promising start to the season that suggests we’ll be hard to beat.
Might want to beef up security for next Sat!

Please keep your ‘french phrases’ to yourself. Great point lads. Well battled. Onto Oldham next week which will be a fantastic occasion.

Excellent point. In this division, any result away from home should be applauded. Well done lads.

Scunthorpe have just signed Jake Scrimshaw on loan from Bournemouth in time for tomorrow. Their manager must have thought they were toothless before and Scrimshaw duly obliged on his debut.

As in previous games, the opposition had more of the ball but we still carved out scoring opportunities. I haven't seen the match stats but I expect them to show that Scunthorpe bossed the game on corners won but that we were ahead when it came to shots (admittedly, not all on target).
After a rather shaky start we grew into the game and must have been satisfied to be level at the interval. Scunthorpe took the lead in controversial circumstances as the ref allowed play to continue when Ben Wyatt (already bandaged) went down with an apparent head injury. It then looked as if Scunthorpe would go on to win. But the introduction of Enzio Boldewijn for Kenny D (who'd actually had a good game), with Harry moving infield, gave us renewed impetus. Donovan Wilson had had a quiet game, but Enzio's run and cross in the 84th minute saw him flick home the equaliser. After that we might have won it, but Wilson then Eastmond both spurned presentable late opportunities to snatch the three points.

Its just a shame we didn't bag all 3pts today, Donavan really should have scored in added time, and I am afraid the Scunny goal could have been dealt with by Dean a little better. If We could somehow get Tanto back I think we could become a real force, we are so close to turning points into wins. Its a very fine line between winning and losing in this league and we are bang on that line.. Having watched Brentford last week, they showed how to win a game without the ball and today they stayed tough to get a point at Palace, I think they are a bit like us

My cousin was doing the edit for the EFL show and asked me to message him the key moments during the game, which I did.
He sent me the following message:
"How the hell did the ref not blow for that assault on Ben Wyatt. That was great context regarding Wyatt receiving head injury before the second one because I may have missed it first time round. The VOice over artist may have eventually spotted it as he read your website match report but still it helps getting the info early doors. Brilliant goal from Wilson. Didn’t have enough edit time to put both of your misses in at the end so opted for Craig Eastmonds 98th min miss."
I'm rather relieved we don't have to see Donovans miss!

I thought Scunthorpe gave us more problems than both FGR and Salford, you can’t underestimate any side in this league! Dave didn’t have a great game and with Harry on the other flank we did struggle to get into the game. Once Enzo and Ricky came on we were flying. Just a shame we couldn’t finish the chances we made.

Before the game I would have taken a point at Scunthorpe. Having watched the highlights, I find myself feeling rather disappointed. As with Forest Green away and Cardiff away, we have conceded a very poor goal. I agree with Os that Dean should have done better. Every team is always going to miss chances. Louis missed a great chance to win the game at Salford last week - but he is not in the team for his goal scoring ability and if other seasons are anything to go by, he will get us some goals before the end of the season. Donovan missed a good chance to win it yesterday - but he scored a very well taken goal - and I'd settle for him converting one in every two chances he gets over the course of the season. Easty missed a great chance to win it yesterday - but we all know that his great strength lies more in his defensive qualities rather than his attacking ability. All that said, if we have hopes of spending most of this season at the other end of the table to where we currently find ourselves, we need to be more clinical and decisive in both penalty areas. Whether that can be achieved with our current squad or whether we need a bit more quality in some areas - I'm not sure.

True to form, Jake stayed behind after the game to autograph shells and ivory products.

I have just published my blog post about the Scunthorpe game which I listened to on EFL iFollow for the first time. Must have been brilliant to have been at the game, maximum credit to the travelling Amber Army. I had a few heart stopping moments listening in to the game. The blog post if you want to have a look is on Medium called 'Walk away, walk away, I will iFollow' shanepdillon.medium.com/walk-away-walk-away-i-will-ifollow-c1186d07ae5a

I went to Caley Thistle yesterday to see them play Ayr and although Caley won 1-0, their third straight 1-0 win, the way they played compared to Sutton was very obvious and considering that Caley are in the Scottish Champions League Sutton certainly has no problem playing in our League 2, or for that matter in SFL Championship League. After watching the Sutton highlights though we missed a ‘few’ good chances to score and with the pairings and working together compared to Caley was obvious, Sutton are certainly not scared of shooting. Once we get back to GGL we will make our presence felt have no fear of that. Unfortunately I will miss the Oldham and Trophy games as I am not back until 8th September so hopefully my S/T will be waiting for me but in the meantime I’ll be cheering on Sutton and be wearing my named 3rd kit shirt👍

Great weekend away. We actually found a couple of nice places to go in Doncaster, which at one stage, seemed impossible!
We had 16 shots to Scunthorpe's 8 (they only had 1 shot on target which is awful for a home side). Some of the comments on the Scunthorpe forum are just plain crazy:
"We actually played some nice stuff in parts and was good seeing a striker like Scrimshaw get in the channels and into the defenders faces- they didn’t like it and he deserved the goal. Other positives were Watson who didn’t really put a foot wrong apart from a couple of dodgy kicks, deserves to keep his place. Additionally Onarisie put in a solid shift. That should’ve been the end of summary as Sutton were atrocious and completely out the game, if anything we should have pushed for a 2nd."
That's one example.
What's clear to me is that we're matching these L2 sides and will get better as the season goes on, hopefully the shooting will get better as we were guilty of some glaring misses yesterday. We have to take our chances especially the guilt edged ones.
Can't wait for Oldham now.
