We've had our first historic home EFL game, we've had a 'standard' home game, we've had a Papa Johns game and had our first EFL a midweek game. The first attendances are in! Were they what was expected? Bigger than hoped? Dissapointing? So what do we think?

Just a few years ago we would be pleased to see 700 at a game. I'm very happy and a little surprised they have been this good.

This is an interesting question ! As a club we have to be able to predict attendances in advance for policing and stewarding purposes. We also want a season-long prediction as part of budget forecasting.
For Oldham that actual gate was very close to our prediction (We come up with an initial figure a week or so in advance in order to book stewards and then refine this estimate with the police on the back of ticket sales and other information). For Stevenage we initially estimated 2500 to 3000 but it became clear we were not going to reach that, perhaps because some were hesitant to buy tickets having seen that our previous game had fallen foul to Covid. For Hartlepool we went in the range 2000-2500, being our first midweek league game and with Pools having so far to travel, so to get a crowd right at the to end of that range was encouraging.
Because our segregated away section holds a little over 600 it does not necessarily mean that the biggest gates will be against the clubs with the biggest fan bases; to consistently get over 3,000 will mean increasing our own regular home fan base. Spread the Word !!
Our official estimates are not guaranteed to be any more accurate than anyone else's, it's only when sales information becomes available that we can start to be a little more confident but it is not a science. At 3pm yesterday it was hard to see a crowd over 2,300.

Lets hope attendances increase further if we keep winning at home. Even during the downpour there was room in the covered terracing for a few more.

In the final Conference South season before we put down the 3G I think the average was around 650. It is quite remarkable to think that was only 7 seasons ago.

In the final Conference South season before we put down the 3G I think the average was around 650. It is quite remarkable to think that was only 7 seasons ago. Our first three home games in 2014/15 were against Havant & W (Tues 12 August), Boreham Wood (Mon 25 August) and Concord Rangers (Sat 6 September). The attendances for those games were given as 457, 440 and 628.

Are this seasons figures based on scanned entries minus non-attending season ticket holders?

Are this seasons figures based on scanned entries minus non-attending season ticket holders? Season tickets are scanned at entrance too so I would assume attendance means every entry scanned of the evening whether is season ticket or normal ticket.

That sounds right to me. No need to subtract anything when everyone in the ground has been scanned in. Even those who don't have to pay at all (e.g. children)

Are this seasons figures based on scanned entries minus non-attending season ticket holders? I thought the whole point of scanning at the enterance is to know exactly how many and who is in the stadium so I imagine that is what is used for official numbers. I think in the Nat league the numbers are often estimated... Or at least rougher that they are in the league...

According to Football Web Pages our average home attendance (2,873) is 16th in League Two, ahead of Scunthorpe, Rochdale, Colchester, Barrow, FG Rovers, Crawley, Salford and Harrogate.

A couple of those surprise me. Great stuff! I hope the attendances won't drop when the novelty wears off a bit
