The Hamil Road End, the away stand, is always used. It seats over 4,000 but as you say, the rake isn't great. It was built on top of a standing terrace but the chairman at the time decided that if the rake was flattened a bit he would get more seats in!!
Looking forward to Saturday. A new ground which will take us very close to 92 - only Barrow to go after Sutton. There are a couple of new grounds we haven't done at Cardiff and West Ham but we had done both Ninian Park and Upton Park so I'm counting them! With Vale and Sutton as the two form teams in the division it should be a very decent encounter.

With Vale and Sutton as the two form teams in the division it should be a very decent encounter. What I can say (as a lifelong Huddersfield Town fan and therefore a lifelong watcher of EFL games more so than non-league games) is that I think Port Vale fans will have a good day out on Saturday and enjoy their time at Sutton United. I’ve lived in the Epsom area since the early 80’s and have usually seen SUFC a few times each season over the years, but have bought a season ticket for this season, so I think I know SUFC reasonably well. I say this because SUFC are now a L2 club, ON MERIT, but the club is determined that it will adhere to its principles which have gained the club so much respect in football circles over many years. Even though you might find the facilities at GGL a little bit basic and temporary (for away fans) at the moment, I’m certain Vale fans will be treated with respect and made welcome. By the way, the only “traditional” ground I’ve never been to is Goodison Park, though, like you, there are several replacement grounds I’ve not been to whereas I’ve been to their original grounds, including your nearest and dearest rivals!

It seems we are the only EFL game in London this Saturday. So we STRONGLY recommend to all Sutton fans to buy your match tickets in advance and if you have to buy on the day you look to arrive around 2pm - please do not arrive 15 minutes before kick-off and expect there to be no queues.

I would emphasise dave's comments I see there are only around 10 grandstand seats available to buy and we have not yet reached Friday.

Biggest home league attendance since . . . Or ever?! Or post WWII? Of course, the capacity is a lot lower than it used to be

Yes but not sure the old capacity was ever relevant for league matches?! We know there has been some bigger cup attendances (I.e. Leeds). Not sure the size of league matches back in the day. I’m sure I had a book (United we Stand?!) that would likely give a guide but think that is at the folks. In modern days Oldham and Ebbsfleet were the biggest but haven’t checked which was larger out of those.

Didn't we have biggy against Yeovil the year the went up, or was that an away match.

Didn't we have biggy against Yeovil the year the went up, or was that an away match. Remember them both. The away one would have been a larger attendance I’d imagine (and we gave it a good go) but they were out in force at ours. I doubt more than 3,000 though at GGL. Stand to be corrected.

We'll definitely be getting a larger crowd than normal. There's quite a lot of interest especially as 2 in form teams are playing each other and this is the biggest game in London. I know of a few Fulham fans attending and I expect other clubs supporters will do the same.

The away to Yeovil game in 86 (in the Isthmian League) was a little over 5,000

The highest league gate, in recent times, that I’m aware of is 3,541 v Aldershot Town in 2017/18. The following season we had 3,339 v Leyton Orient. Oldham Athletic was 3,262. A new record awaits!

Hadn’t been on my radar at all. Ok, looks like 3,541 to beat, at least in modern days.
