On the EFL highlights programme on Quest last night, mention was made of the number of attacking threats that Sutton currently possess. Particularly nice to hear considering a couple of weeks ago, after the Exeter game, much of the talk was of missed chances. I suspect that Tanto's return (to fitness) has provided something of a 'boost' for all the other strikers at the club as well as for the team as a whole. I guess that at the moment one of Matt's toughest jobs is deciding which strikers to leave out. I noted yesterday that Havant progressed to the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup with Tommy Wright (who started the game on the bench) scoring one of their goals. While I'm very happy with the attacking options that Sutton currently have, I do think that it's a shame that things couldn't have worked out differently for Tommy since he was definitely an EFL quality player and, in my opinion, capable of playing at a higher level that Division 2. I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the most money Sutton have ever received for a player was the £100,000 we received from Bournemouth (when Harry Redknapp was their manager) in 1990 for former striker Efan Ekoku. Presumably, if we maintain our Football League status, that record may be broken at some point in the next few years or so. That said, I do hope that we retain all the key members of our current squad for the next season or two - at least. I would presume that those in charge of the club would take the view that the financial implications of staying in the Football League should outweigh any short-term gains of receiving a transfer fee for one of our key players (subject of course to the amount of the fee offered). While not being overly impressed with his own team yesterday, Northampton's manager conceded that any team in Division 2 would struggle to live with Sutton if they continue to play like they did yesterday. Who knows - if we can keep our current squad together and maintain our form of the last few weeks, maybe we can even allow ourselves to dream of possible (lucrative) league matches against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland and Derby in the foreseeable future?

Was it just me and my friend who thought that the facilities for away fans were just shockingly bad? Nowhere to grab a half time pint and the little refreshments that were on offer cost me £14 for two cheeseburgers (wrapped in tinfoil and cold, trying to open the bun in them to squirt some ketchup in after the said bun seemingly dissolved) and a cup of tea and coffee. Coupled with the fact that the seats for the stand we bought tickets for wasn't even open and the stand we were all in was basically open to any element you want to throw at it.
I thought Aldershot would take some beating but Northampton just took the biscuit.
Anyway, that said the Sevens pub was quite delightful and so was the night out we had after, price wise you can't go wrong.

Apparently they'd been trying to watch highlights of Northampton Town's matches all last season but were thwarted by the tele ban.

I thought the referee had a good game yesterday and wasn’t intimidated. The sight of her standing next to Richie was quite comical. Made me laugh when some players were doing that thing footballers do when they get in the ref's face to try and intimidate them but in this case the ref was so tiny that to do that they had to bend down, which was rather comical and somewhat ruined the impact! (Not that players trying to intimidate officials is a thing I generally find amusing but it very much didn't work this time.)

The new ground is in a bowl Billy. I got the feeling that if it rained for forty days and forty nights there would have been Ark lights instead of floodlights.

I thought the view from the stand was excellent - if a little damp at times - the best we’ve had this season.

I thought the view from the stand was excellent - if a little damp at times - the best we’ve had this season. Ha, only because you stood up, causing everyone behind you to stand up. I can say there were a few there who wouldn't say the view from the stand was excellent in those circumstances. Anyway, what more to add? A fantastic performance, and the first one I've seen this season which felt like the side with the confidence of last season. Everyone who played was brilliant, but I was especially impressed with Bennett doing the Omar role to perfection, and the back 4 who were instrumental in making sure that Northampton couldn't get a shot on target at home for the entire game. I think part of our problem this season was our nerves, but as we've seen, we've got nothing to be nervous of. We have a quality side who can match the best in the division. If we played with that confidence in August, we would have beaten both Oldham and Scunthorpe at the very least and we would have been sitting in a very different position to now. Going forward, there really isn't anything to indicate we are going to struggle here. Awesome times yet again for us!

Yeah. Great view from the stand...if you're not very tall and everyone in front of you is standing so you have to as well

I have no problem with fans standing in the seated area provided they stand at the back and not block the view of others who have paid an arm and a leg to sit.
I saw several people having to change seats because they couldn't see the game.

I saw several people having to change seats because they couldn't see the game. Well, I think that's extraordinary bad manners on the part of those that decicded to stand. And I don't care what state of excitment they were in. Grown ups, aren't they? Frankly, if I'm in a seated area (not my preference, btw) and the person in front of me decides to stand then I persuade that person to sit down again. I like to be an easy going fellow but I am also a shortarse who has no intention of paying good money to look at the back of someone who's decided to play 'Mr. Giraffe in the tall trees'. Ridiculous behaviour.

Oh, ridiculous behaviour. I was four rows from the back and I stood throughout. In fact, I stood at Scunthorpe too and in previous seasons at Wrexham etc, all seated areas.
It is why the Prem League is bringing in safe standing because so many do stand.
Usually if considered a problem, stewards will instruct people to sit. They didn't on Saturday as were more interested in keeping the aisles clear. The home fans opposite didn't appear to be given the same though.
The problem was we were squeezed into an area that included a good portion that was exposed to the weather and a fair number of seats were unusable as a result.
Not sure where Northampton got their numbers from but had they put us behind the goal none of the problems would have occurred. But they didn't have enough stewards or more likely saw a way of not having to hire anymore to save a few bob .
I note that a couple of people who have mentioned this on here usually stand at home games so why complain when they had to last Saturday?
As was obvious at Exeter, given the choice, the vast majority will stand rather than sit.
Sadly this is the way away fans sometimes get treated and if asked, perhaps our club needs to over estimate the numbers likely to travel, especially for those venues that are comparatively close to Sutton as was Saturday. We might then get a bit more room.

I think I should add that I am very aware of our current limitations on housing away fans but if a ground has better options as they did Saturday bloody well use them. Especially when the weather was as it was.
