By the skin of our teeth - we gave up too much procession and we’re fortunate that it didn’t go to penalties. Bennett, Smith in particular ran out of legs - suspect they haven’t trained. Worryingly that Wilson went off with a knee injury. Could someone have a word with our great commentary team - we are now in the last 8 not the last 16 something they repeatedly said during the evening ie the quarter finals. Still beatable teams left in the draw and hopefully we will avoid the big hitting league 1 teams. I think it stops being regional now but I could be wrong. Yes, the EFL Trophy stops being regional after the round of 16, so we could be drawn against any of the remaining sides now - I think the draw for the QF is on Talk Sport between 11:00am and 11:30am this Thursday. I was going to ask this.

Sadly the commentary team got a lot of facts wrong last night which i found frustrating to listen to. Me too and they were talking before the game about their Christmasses without realising they could be heard. Doondas and frow ins?

Any glottal stops? There are THREE 'Ts' in Sutton United and we often hear non of them!

The pundits on BT Sport (e.g. Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole, etc) find it impossible to correctly pronounce words starting with “th”. Classic examples are “fick and fast”, “furt-ee free”, “fro-in”, “free at the back” and “front free”. In an interview, Mason Mount came up with “fry-ving”. I had to think for several seconds to work out what he said!

Oh heavens above, how dare people with working class accents have jobs on TV. Whatever next? Regional accents?

It’s one thing to not necessarily being able to pronounce “th’s” but ‘t’ is a letter of the alphabet which is easy enough to pronounce, you don’t drink a cup of ‘ea’ do you, and its got nothing to do with regional accents it’s just plain laziness.

If I was one of our amateur commentators, and reading this, I'd be thinking "F this, I'm not going to bother in the future".

Not sure some people here know what a regional accent is or how it works. A glottal stop does not take less effort to pronounce than a "t" unless you possess a regional accent where the former naturally replaces the latter at the end or middle of a word and you have to consciously override it to produce that phoneme. That takes a lot of effort especially if your words are quickly spoken and unrehearsed and I disagree that not to spend all your mental energy on that when you're trying to do a job that requires lots of concentration constitutes laziness.

Nobody drops Cs when saying cup. I guarantee you there's more people watching football on TV that have "working class" accents than sound like Jacob Reece Mogg. It's how alot of footballers talk, why should anyone be ashamed of what they sound like or have to take elocution lessons?

I do realise that they're probably doing it for nothing and they're not pros but I don't have a lot of time for pundits and commentatators anyway. Also we could've missed a goal while they were showing a replay which is probably not in the club's control.

Nobody minds, then, when Harry Beautyman's name is continually rendered into 'Bewyman'? Because, whatever one's accent, that ain't actually the man's name.
Also, there are both regional accents and lazy speech. The two are not mutually exclusive

I have to say how impressed I am at the appearance of our pitch at the moment. A tremendous improvement on how any grass pitch we've ever had has looked and played at this time of year, I'd say. You'd be forgiven for not particularly noticing since we'd got so used to having the artificial pitch that always looked exactly the same all year round, and besides it's one of those things you sometimes only notice if it's bad. So I just wanted to say a big well done to everyone involved in maintaining it as it has indeed been noticed. Beat me to it Sally. I entirely agree, and flaws show up more under lights so yesterday evening the carpet was seen to best effect. It is an amazing quality for a first year pitch. All praise to the contractors and groundsmen!

Two observations about the match/competition rather than the commentary
1. That was the first goal we've conceded in the entire competition. We'd played 405 minutes of football without letting a goal in. (and no, a penalty shoot out doesn't count)
2. The 3 L2 sides through to the next round were all playing in the same league 18 months ago. The National league that is (Harrogate, Hartlepool and us). Exeter may come and spoil the party but they need to win 2 games before that happens
